Helldivers 2 players are seeing cloaked ships in the sky signaling a possible new threat

Helldivers 2 is a game where anything can happen at any time. Arrowhead Game Studios has been known to implement new story elements into the game between updates, which helps to keep things exciting. The Shriekers suddenly appeared in the game one day and players were not expecting to see flying Terminids on their mission. Now, it looks like a new threat could be lurking in the skies and players are wondering whether this means a new enemy is on its way, possibly The Illuminate.

U/Infinity_Cube posted on Reddit that they have seen mysterious cloaked ships in the sky. These ships are barely visible but if you look closely at the sky you can see an outline of them. Initially, some passed it off as being some kind of glitch and the ships didn’t render on screen. But, some players have since backed up the claim by saying they have seen similar cloaked ships in the sky too.

It is unclear whether this is just a glitch or whether it is a new threat, but I was able to load into a game and verify that the same thing happened on my screen. What is interesting is that it mainly seems visible when near the moon. I don’t know if more outlines can be seen in other parts of the sky, the light reflecting from the moon may be making the outlines visible.

Arrowhead Game Studios has a habit of releasing new parts of the story outside of updates, which could explain why it wasn’t mentioned in the recent 01.000.200 update, which increased the level cap from 50 to 150 and made many balance changes to the game. In between updates, we saw the release of the Quasar Cannon and the Heavy Machine Gun, meaning anything could happen at any time, and it makes the game more enjoyable as it keeps players on their toes.

With this new threat on the horizon, it will be interesting to see what Arrowhead Game Studios has in store next. Only a small amount of the universe has been explored, leaving lots of opportunities for exciting new enemies and locations to be added to the game.
