- Unlock Or Destroy The Necromancy Of Thay
“Search the Cellar” may sound like one of the most straightforward quests in Baldur’s Gate 3, but it isn’t. This cellar appears to be very plain, and it would be easy for players to think they need to wait for something exciting to happen first. But that’s not the case.
This cellar is like a very small dungeon, complete with puzzles, traps, riddles, and one of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s most intriguing treasures, the Necromancy of Thay. Unless you know exactly what to do, it’s easy to get stuck and give up. Between the lore and the value of the goods, however, it’s best to try and figure out this quest.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get Ring of Elemental Infusion
The Ring of Elemental infusion can greatly improive the versatility of certain Suclasses in Baldur’s Gate 3, making it a worthwhile item to acquire.
How To Enter The Cellar
The first “puzzle” is just a bunch of crates hiding a lever. If players don’t know to highlight items and then throw them, they might never know what these crates hide. Use this lever and the bookcase will move out of the way.
Where To Find The Scroll of Summon Quasit
There is an optional battle after passing through the bookcase opening. The Mouldering Caskets have some treasure but also enemies who will awaken enemies in other caskets. Thankfully, the fight is not too tough. In looting these caskets, players will find a Scroll of Summon Quasit. Don’t save it as the Quasit has nothing interesting to say outside this area. Use it and gain some lore knowledge about the area.
Mirror Riddle
Talking to the mirror is one of the most rewarding things for Dungeons and Dragons players who are familiar with the Red Wizards of Thay and Szass Tam. But unless players are huge at this tabletop role-playing game, they might just need this guide for the answers to the mirror’s quiz. Additionally, it is possible to intimidate the mirror if you don’t wish to answer the questions.
How To Get The Necromancy Of Thay
Once inside, pass a perception check to find a plate in front of the cage door, the locked cage itself, and a plate underneath the Necromancy of Thay. Switch party members to somebody good at unlocking doors and disabling traps. After acquiring the book, it’s off to the Whispering Depths to find the Dark Amethyst for the book.
Unlock Or Destroy The Necromancy Of Thay
Now, players can either destroy the Necromancy of Thay, open it, or give it to certain characters. To destroy it, use any spell that deals radiant damage. Shadowheart can easily do this if the player character doesn’t have access to radiant abilities. Or players can open the book by combining it with the Dark Amethyst.
Getting to the Whispering Depths is not to be confused with getting to the Underdark. Enter the well from the Blighted Village or the opposing door, then search for the Dark Amethyst crystal on the ground by the Spider Matriarch boss. Use the Necromancy of Thay and the option to combine it with the Dark Amethyst will appear. Use it to complete the quest.
Finally, if you have either Gale or Astarion in the party, both will show interest in the book for personal reasons. Giving the Necromancy of Thay to one of them will earn players some approval as well as a conversation regarding the content of the book, back at camp.
