The Chinese Room has revealed the release date for its upcoming nautical narrative horror game Still Wakes the Deep.
The game, which was announced last summer and which looks a little like the Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs developer’s take on SOMA (appropriately enough), launches across PC and current-gen consoles on June 18th.
You’ll be exploring an abandoned oil rig off the coast of Scotland, which…well, you’ve only got yourself to blame when things get spooky if you’re going to go exploring such obviously haunted places, right?
Unlike Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, on which The Chinese Room is also currently working, Still Wakes the Deep is a narrative horror game in the same vein as Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.
You won’t have access to any weapons or special powers; it’s just you, your wits, and something horrifying that clearly isn’t supposed to be on this rig.
If you’ve played The Chinese Room’s games before, then you’ll probably know what to expect from this one. You’ll be exploring the rig, solving a few very light environmental puzzles, and picking up a lot of painstakingly-rendered objects.

The Chinese Room describes the force you’ll be up against in Still Wakes the Deep as “an otherworldly horror on the edge of all logic and reality”, so it looks like we’re dancing the Lovecraft limbo again.
In any case, you’ll be able to check out Still Wakes the Deep when it launches on June 18th.
The game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and if you’re a Game Pass subscriber, then you’ll be able to play it on day one at no additional cost. Stay tuned for more on this and all other The Chinese Room endeavors.
