Players in Helldivers 2 aren’t solely focused on guns and explosions; some also aim to express their individuality. The developers are well aware of this, which is why they’ve integrated some incredible Emotes into the game.
Every democracy enthusiast and freedom lover enjoys communicating with their comrades after annihilating a horde of bugs or a squad of Automatons. Who wouldn’t want to salute after blowing up an Automaton Tank? However, Helldivers 2 doesn’t clearly explain how to perform such actions. The guide below will provide you with all the information about Emotes, covering everything from how to use them to how to acquire more.
Updated March 15th, 2024 by Russ Boswell: The frontlines of Helldivers 2 can be an unforgiving and painful place. Players will find themselves struggling to complete missions against hordes of Automatons or Terminids and the chaos of the battlefield can take its toll. Thankfully, Helldivers 2 lets players lighten the mood with an array of fun, useful, and funny emotes. Buying new emotes and using them is easy enough in Helldivers 2. To better show players how to Emote in Helldivers 2, the following guide has been updated with a companion video.
Helldivers 2: How to Skip Server Capacity Queue
Waiting in line because the server has already been crowded in Helldivers 2 can be daunting. Here is how you can skip the queue.
How To Choose An Emote
Emotes cannot be changed during a mission. To choose an emote, you must be on either your ship or your ally’s ship. Once there, navigate to the armory, where you customize your weapons and armor. Select the third tab labeled Character, and then choose Emote — the third option in the list, positioned between Voice Pack and Victory Pose.
Here, you can view and select all the emotes you have unlocked. Keep in mind that it will not display any emotes you currently don’t possess. The default emote, available to everyone for free, is called the Casual Salute. While it looks decent, it’s nothing too impressive.
How To Perform An Emote
Once you have chosen your emote, you can use it anywhere, whether you’re down on the planet taking on a swarm of Terminids or safely on your ship.
To execute an emote, keyboard and mouse players will need to press their designated emote button, which by default will be the ‘B’ key. Players using the DualSense, whether on PC or PS5, will need to hold the Left button on the D-Pad. Keep in mind that you need to hold the button; just pressing it will simply swap your weapon. You can view your controller layout or keybindings via the Options Menu.

To acquire more emotes in Helldivers 2, navigate to the Acquisition Center and select Warbond Progression. Here, you can purchase emotes and other items using Medals, a currency obtained by completing missions, operations, and Personal Order daily missions.
