Right on the heels of Helldivers 2’s successful launch, rumors started to emerge over a potential Sony acquisition of Arrowhead Game Studios. Helldivers 2 CEO addresses acquisition rumors from players
After posts on X (formerly Twitter) and NeoGAF spreading rumors about an imminent Arrowhead Game Studios acquisition by Sony, its CEO didn’t take long to respond. Helldivers 2 CEO Johan Pilestedt replied to the post on X with ‘This is fake… Unless I’ve missed something,’ clearing any doubt and suspicion from players’ minds.
Considering Helldivers 2’s incredible success, it makes sense that some fans would want the studio to be acquired by the game’s publisher. It’s not a great look for Sony though, especially in the wake of its layoffs. But it looks like Arrowhead will be steering this success story on its own. The CEO also responded to another fan on X (formerly Twitter) with ‘This is the first I hear of this… And that’s a good indication that it’s fake.’
Other players took this as a sign that the co-op shooter could eventually make it to Xbox, letting more gamers dive in for some Terminid and Automaton destruction. While a port hasn’t been spoken about, it’s a possibility that many fans hold onto. But for now, you’ll have to spread managed democracy from a PC or a PlayStation 5.
