WWE 2K24 is bringing back the infamous ECW promotion for its MyGM mode. Extreme Championship Wrestling was created in 1992 as a competitor to both the World Wrestling Federation (as WWE was once known) and World Championship Wrestling, and set itself apart with a roster of future WWE 2K24 superstars and a more hardcore style of wrestling that saw competitors strike each other with weapons as often as punches and holds. WWE would start a revamped version of ECW as a third brand in 2006, but this would eventually end in 2010, with NXT taking its place two years later.
The original ECW remains highly regarded among wrestling fans, with many of its premiere stars going on to have legendary careers in WWE, including WWE 2K22 cover star Rey Mysterio. Two ECW video games were released by Acclaim Entertainment in 2000, and the WWE relaunch was featured in numerous Smackdown vs. Raw installments until its eventual end. When it comes to the more recent WWE 2K installments, players have kept the memory of ECW alive by recreating classic versions of its biggest wrestlers using WWE 2K23’s character creation suite.
WWE 2K24 Reveals New Screenshots for The Rock and Teddy Long
With a few weeks left until launch, WWE 2K24 shares screenshots of The Rock and former SmackDown GM Teddy Long’s character models.
Now players might be able to resurrect ECW outright, as the WWE 2K24 website suggests that the long-defunct promotion will be included in this year’s MyGM mode. In the section dedicated to MyGM mode, an image of Tyler Breeze in front of the old ECW logo is featured, all but confirming that it will be one of the available brands players can choose in WWE 2K24‘s MyGM mode alongside Raw, Smackdown, NXT, NXT 2.0, and WCW. When the topic was brought up on r/WWEGames by EstebanThe17, fans immediately started speculating on what the brand’s arena would look like and what special perks would come to those who chose it.
ECW Is Coming To WWE 2K24 in MyGM
General Manager mode has been a popular staple of WWE video games, allowing players to run their own WWE shows by drafting a roster of Superstars and putting together action-packed cards. WWE 2K22 revamped this feature as MyGM, and last year’s WWE allowed fans to relive the nostalgia of the 90s wrestling boom by managing a new version of WCW in addition to the current WWE brands.
Many fans noticed the ECW logo on the WWE 2K24 website when the game was first announced back in January, but its inclusion in MyGM Mode remains an exciting development for those with fond memories of the company in its heyday. WWE 2K23’s take on WCW saw wrestlers compete in a generic arena adorned in the company’s classic logo, despite having the Monday Nitro arena available in other modes. Fans are likely hoping that WWE 2K24 will provide a more authentic look for ECW when players return to the land of Extreme in MyGM by recreating classic shows and PPV arenas.
