GROCERY GREED

The Liberals have now allocated $5 million to “study” increasing food prices. Tell you what, give me half that and I’ll tell you why the price of our groceries is climbing at an unprecedented rate.

Oh, they go on and on about the war in Ukraine, climate change, etc. — there are a litany of excuses they’re throwing around to justify why prices have skyrocketed. It’s more simple than they let on. Big companies everywhere have used the last four years to increase their profits. It’s the old trick of keeping our focus on one thing (in this case COVID) while increasing prices and shrinking what our dollar can buy. The main reasons for this have been the carbon taxes and plain greed.

So please don’t buy companies’ crocodile tears that they’re barely making a profit because it just isn’t true. Transportation costs have come down quite a bit from even two years ago. Grocery conglomerates are loath to sign any kind of contract that would limit their profits even if it means people continue to have a hard time affording food for the table.

We aren’t a priority for them … only their profits are.

SHAMELESS TRUDEAU

Imagine Justin Trudeau making the former speaker, Anthony Rota, take the fall and resign over inviting the former Nazi to Parliament. That speaks volumes about what Trudeau will do to escape responsibility. Having been found to have breached ethics rules in the past, Trudeau has never apologized to Canadians. Trudeau has never taken responsibility for any of the many serious scandals his government has been involved in, but simply denies and deflects blame to others.

‘PERFORMANCE’ BONUSES

We all know how indignant business executives get when questioned about the payment of performance bonuses. You only have to look at CBC boss Catherine Tait’s reactions when questioned about payments made to CBC upper management.

Move a little further down the food chain to the municipal level. The doom and gloom at OC Transpo reads like a second-rate horror story! Layoffs and reduced services are the norm. I asked my area city councillor a simple question: Did or will OC Transpo be paying performance bonuses to executives and senior level management for 2023? The response was crickets. Perhaps I should have defined the word performance.
