Jujutsu Kaisen has proven itself to be an incredible story over the course of the last few years. The protagonist of the story is none other than Yuji Itadori and he is quite an intriguing character that the fans have come to love.
Jujutsu Kaisen: 5 Most Underrated Cursed Techniques
These cursed techniques are powerful but underrated in JJK.
However, as with all amazing stories written, Yuji isn’t the only amazing character in JJK. There are many other characters other than him who have incredible stories to tell. In fact, some of them would even have made phenomenal protagonists had they been chosen in Yuji’s place to lead the story forward.
5 Nobara Kugisaki
A Strong Female Sorcerer
Nobara Kugisaki is an amazing character that fans saw quite a lot of in the beginning of JJK. Unfortunately, this is a character who ended up being treated harshly later down the line and was eventually killed off in Shibuya. Yet, fans must not forget that she was once a part of the main cast. Nobara was shown to be a very capable female character at the beginning of the story.
Her dreams and ambitions were admirable as well and her confidence was her biggest strength. Nobara was also a genius, being able to utilize cursed energy at a level where she could even fight against Special Grades. Nobara was nothing short of extraordinary and could have made for a great protagonist, especially in a world where male sorcerers dominated. Unfortunately, that is never going to happen as Nobara was killed off in the battle against Mahito in Shibuya.
4 Megumi Fushiguro
An Important Side Character
Megumi Fushiguro is another interesting character that could have made for a great protagonist. Megumi was born with the blood of the Zenin Family and he inherited their powerful cursed technique, the 10 Shadows Technique. He was to be sold to the Zenin Family, however, Gojo took responsibility for him and inducted him into Jujutsu High, keeping a promise to Toji.
Megumi had an amazing tale to tell, especially when it comes to the important people in his life, such as Gojo, and, of course, Tsumiki. Along the lines, he also formed incredible relationships with the likes of Yuji and Nobara. While JJK is amazing with Yuji as the main character, a story with Megumi in the spotlight would have been amazing as well, especially when it comes to his character struggles with being the one to always sacrifice himself.
3 Maki Zenin
A Skilled Non-Sorcerer
Maki is one of the most amazing characters in JJK and one that fans have come to love dearly. She is a very compelling character, especially due to her Zenin background. Maki was born into the Zenin Family, however, deemed a failure from the very beginning due to her lack of cursed energy. In fact, Maki could not even see curses, which made her a stain on the name of the family.
Jujutsu Kaisen: 7 Most Broken Cursed Techniques
These JJK cursed technique are insanely broken.
Yet, Maki still strived to be an amazing sorcerer and that is exactly what makes her story compelling. Maki even manages to achieve that, despite the many obstacles that the Zenin Family put in her part. Eventually, she goes on to massacre the entire family which put her and her sister through tremendous pain. Maki is quite an amazing character who continues to grow in JJK even today. However, had she been the main character, then she would have had an even better story to tell with more focus being thrown her way from the very beginning.
2 Gojo Satoru
The Strongest Modern Sorcerer
The strongest modern sorcerer, Gojo always had an amazing story to tell. Fans got a glimpse of his past in the Hidden Inventory arc, where his relationship with the likes of Suguru Geto was highlighted. Fans also got to see a younger version of Gojo and the struggles he had despite being a genius in his life. His relationships with others, such as Shoko, Riko, and others, were highlighted as well.
Fans also got to see how Gojo was shaped to be the man that he is today and why he ended up becoming a teacher in the first place. It is clear from this short arc that Gojo had tremendous potential as a main character.
Added to the fact is that he is likely the most popular character in the entirety of JJK and fans would absolutely have loved a series with him as a protagonist.
1 Yuta Okkotsu
The Next Gen Gem
Perhaps the best character to be the protagonist of JJK other than Yuji would be Yuta Okkotsu. In fact, Yuta is the protagonist of the prequel manga to JJK that the author wrote before the main series. This manga ended up being adapted as JJK0 later down the line. Yuta is an incredible character with an amazing story to tell.
Fans got to see the beginning of his story in the JJK0 movie, where his connection to Rika, his childhood friend, was explored to the fullest. Fans got to see him blossom from being a meek and timid sorcerer to a monster in combat. His relationship with Rika was the highlight of the movie and the themes surrounding love and sacrifice were explored to the fullest in this movie. Without a doubt, Yuta would have made an incredible protagonist had Yuji not been there.
