REDMAGIC Cyberbuds DAO TWS Review – Stick or TWSt? – Gamezebo

You can always count us in for tech that is specifically made for gamers, so when we had the chance to take the REDMAGIC Cyberbuds DAO TWS earbuds for a spin we didn’t hesitate. With headline features including Active Noise Canceling and low latency, they’re intended to work perfectly for gaming. And fortunately, they do. Our main concern was whether they can justify the high pricetag. And after a few weeks of use we’ve reached our verdict… Our immediate impressions of these were very good. They’re hugely stylish for one, with a transparent design meaning they catch (and hold) the eye. The case is also a sensible size and has a decent heft – the swinging lid that opens and closes doesn’t feel flimsy at all either. The earbuds themselves fit our ears well, and were light without – again – feeling flimsy. They also fitted snugly in the case. Everything about these feels a few steps above budget earbuds in terms of how tactile they feel. Which is probably something you’d expect, but still. In terms of the tech inside the earbuds, they’re packing the Qualcomm Bluetooth 5.3 chipset. This means, in practice, they boast more stable and lower latency connections. This was what we found during our time with the earbuds too, with them working excellently with a range of games – whether they were competitive online titles or relaxed solo adventures.

The previously mentioned Active Noise Reduction is a massive plus when playing games too, with it working amazingly well when we used them while gaming on the go. Even on a busy and rather loud train we could hear everything from the game while playing, which is no mean feat. In terms of actual sound quality we were generally impressed too, with solid bass and boosted lows and highs. The accurate directionality was also rock solid, and again helps no end to play games – especially competitive online experiences where hearing specific sounds is essential. One unique feature that we also welcomed was an accompanying app. This allowed us to enable a range of extra features such as EQ and virtual sound effects. We used these sparingly, but they all worked as advertised and were nice to have. As for battery life, we found the DAO TWS ran for around seven to eight hours on a charge – an hour or so lower if you have them at top volume and use the Active Noise Cancelling constantly. We found this was more than workable with a standard commute, and is about par for earbuds with similar features.

Final Verdict

Ultimately the REDMAGIC Cyberbuds DAO TWS impressed us with how dedicated they are to enhancing audio for mobile gamers specifically. Although the pricing is perhaps a tad too high for many, especially considering AirPods Pro 2 and Sony WF-1000XM5 are in a similar bracket – if you game seriously on your phone these are worth serious consideration. They offer enough custom features as well as ability to customize your audio to make them a savvy choice over perhaps more mainstream targeted alternatives on the market.
