While this week’s big 1.5 update for The Finals brought with it a ton of changes and tweaks to the online shooter, not every change has gone down well with the community – especially one that seems like was never intended.
Over on The Finals subreddit, a user by the name of Illuminacegg claims that developer “Embark has ruined the gunplay” with one of the changes in the latest patch. Specifically, they’re taking umbrage with some new graphical effects when players aim down sights – “I went on the range to see what was going on with the Lewis gun since it felt really bad during my first game of the new patch. Turns out they added a bunch of bloom to a alot of the weapons, making them feel awful to use. I tried some of them out in the range, and for someone who knows how the patterns used to look like pre-patch, this is so bad to see…”
“The M60 was already really bad and barely played with,” they continued. “But now its close to unusable. MP5 and Lewis gun is just gonna be RNG if you shoot from medium range. The crazy part is that the FCAR had the least amount of bloom added to it, which is weird since it was arguably the best gun in the game pre-patch.”
Quickly, a number of players pointed out that this change could be a mistake – especially given The Finals 1.5 patch notes didn’t list any changes to the ADS effects. KurtMage pointed out “The fact that such an impactful change wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes suggests to me that it’s likely a bug.” Indeed, Shy-lo said that if it wasn’t, it’d be the end of their Finals career. “If this was intentional it’d be RIP from me. And tbh, maybe on first person shooters as a whole again. This was the first game to bring me back since I used to no life on CSGO, Team Fortress 2, and Titanfall. This game felt like home. But if they’re adding bloom the writing is on the wall. I’d rather bail with a sour taste in my mouth than waste more time and money on something sinking into a generic, soulless design-by-committee game.”
Luckily for all, it seems that this is indeed a bug, with a message on the developer’s Discord (according to tehghettosmurf) saying they’re already working on a fix. “We’re aware of a bug in Update 1.5.0 that is causing some weapons to apply bullet dispersion/spread/bloom when fired while aiming down sights. This is not an intentional balance change and we’ll be looking to fix this ASAP,” they’ve apparently said.
It sounds like it’s not the only bug in Patch 1.5 too. “We also discovered a bug where the Zoom Sensitivity Multiplier for Controller has been doubled. The original value of 60% may now be 120%. This can be adjusted in the Settings menu by resetting the Zoom Sensitivity Multiplier back to 60%. We’re already working on these fixes, so stay tuned!”
