Highlights

  • Lies of P has 5 weapon categories: daggers, swords, greatswords, blunt, and large blunt weapons.
  • The swords category in Lies of P is visually tame and has average DPS and high attack speed.
  • The Puppet Ripper is a detachable scythe weapon with absurd range, fast attacks, and great Technique scaling.

Despite the game having weapons made out of clock hands, mining drills, a comically large bone-saw, and a giant axe composed of puppet arms, Lies of P only has 5 weapon categories. These categories are daggers, swords, greatswords, blunt, and large blunt weapons.

5 Soulslikes That Came Out Since Hollow Knight That Silksong Can Learn From

Many games have come out between the launch of Hollow Knight and its sequel Silksong, so the latter should take note of what they’ve done right.

And, out of all of them, surprisingly the swords category is the most tame visually. Most of the weapons under this label actually look like swords or, at worst, look similar enough to a stereotypical sword to be recognized as one. In any case, mechanically the swords category of weapons is very good in Lies of P due to their average DPS and high attack speed. With that in mind, let’s take a look at every sword in the game and pick out the best ones while we all wait ‘very patiently’ for the Lies of P sequel to eventually come out.

Updated January 18th, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: When Lies of P first came out, both in general and on Xbox Game Pass, a lot of the initial hype around it was mistakenly attributed to being overstated. However, now that we’re long past its initial release, Lies of P has proven itself to be a lot of people’s game of the year and all-around best Soulslike game. One of the many ways that Lies of P separates itself from other Soulslikes, however, is with its weapon combination system. Swords, in particular, seem to have fantastic blades and handles whereas some other weapon types excel with their blades a bit more and others their handles a bit more. Let’s go over the best swords in Lies of P as a whole and talk a bit about why each one is so useful.

The default of all defaults, the Puppet’s Saber is the starting option for players who aren’t about rapiers as well as players who don’t like lugging around greatswords. It’s a basic, reliable, and handy weapon that earns a spot on here purely because of how long players can rely on this weapon before ‘needing’ to switch to something else.

In all honesty, all 3 of the starting weapons in Lies of P are well-liked and can be used the entire way through the game without major issues. However, the Puppet’s Saber is a good taste tester for sword movesets in this game overall.

Next up is a sword players don’t get until they make a trip to the Estella Opera House. This area of the game is likely one of the best atmospheric areas of Lies of P, and a faster weapon goes a lot further than a slower one here, given the speed of the enemies in the Opera House and the narrow hallways Pinocchio has to fight them in. However, even outside of this area, the Clock Sword is a very good weapon.

It’s not amazing in really any category, but it’s at least pretty good in all of them. It has one of the only Taunt Fable Arts in the game with Bell of Provocation, it has Storm Slash as an offensive Fable Art, and it has decent scaling in either Motivity or Technique, and it has a unique look to it.

Funnily enough, despite the Greatsword of Fate being in its own category of weapons (AKA greatswords) both the Puppet’s Saber and Wintry Rapier share the ‘sword’ classification. But, why is the Wintry Rapier ranked higher than the Puppet’s Saber given that they’re both default weapons? Well, it mostly comes down to the fact that the Wintry Rapier’s handle is an amazing tool for making any heavy blade a lot more usable.

On their default handles, most Motivity-reliant weapons are too heavy to really get any attacks in without a big window of opportunity. However, if players, for example, slap the Pipe Wrench head onto the Wintry Rapier handle, well then they’re able to utilize the Pipe Wrench’s high damage output while also having much faster attack animations.

Up next is quite literally a spear made out of trash that’s, for some reason, labeled as a sword. Because there isn’t a separate ‘spear’ classification in Lies of P, most spears fall into the classification of swords while most axes and hammers fall under the large blunt weapon category.

The City Longspear is about as basic as it comes, which makes sense given that it’s a weapon made out of some loose fencing and an old signpost. It has good Technique scaling, relatively fast attacks, a lot of reliable thrusting attacks, and some decent Fable Arts.

Moving on to another spear under the sword classification it’s the Blind Man’s Double-Sided Spear. This spear is somehow even shorter than some of the other spears in Lies of P, but that doesn’t at all take away from its qualities. This weapon was used by the blind Stalker Noah to protect others, and as such the blade of this weapon looks and functions like a tuning fork to assumably help him ‘see’ while in a fight.

The sword on this list was obviously inspired by real-life curved swords from history and looks similar to either an Ajanta or a Kukri blade. The Bramble Curved Sword is a good weapon in just about every category, but the main reason it’s on here is for its charge attack. The charge attack on the Bramble Curved Sword handle has Pinocchio wind up before leaping forward and unleashing this wide-arching horizontal slice.

Because Pinocchio covers so much distance with this, players can charge their attacks from much farther back than they would usually need to, allowing them to attack from relative safety. So, while the Bramble Curved Sword blade is also good, the handle is the real star of this weapon due to the value it adds to most of its combinations.

It’s a bit of a shame, but the remainder of this list is pretty much all Rare Ergo weapons. While it does make sense, given the materials required to obtain these weapons, it’s not the most exciting thing to put all the rarest weapons at the top of the rankings. First up is the Proof of Humanity, which will most likely be the last weapon players obtain in their playthrough since it requires the Nameless Puppet’s Rare Ergo in order to obtain it.

However, for NG+ or just for messing around after beating the story, this weapon is fantastic. It’s one of the only swords with innate Crit Chance, as this is usually reserved for daggers, it has fast attacks despite being heavy, and it has some amazing moments with its heavy attacks and Link Slash Fable Art where the blade splits into two.

The top three rankings of this list are also primarily going to include weapons that players won’t be able to obtain until the last few hours of the game’s story, sadly. The next one, the Uroboros’s Eye, is a weapon made from Laxasia’s Rare Ergo (once players manage to beat her) and is one of the more unique weapons in the game overall.

Going from a Chakram to a Scythe, the Puppet Ripper is a detachable scythe weapon that players will get from Alidoro the Treasure Hunter after giving him the Puppet King’s Ergo. This thing has absurd range, fast attacks, great Technique scaling, incredible Fable Arts, the ability to attack from afar, and the ability to hit enemies around corners or through walls. In fact, there are almost too many upsides to this weapon to include, as it’s just that good. Thankfully, Lies of P is not one of those weapons that players unlock only to find that the game is almost over because at the point that Pinocchio obtains this Ergo (and weapon), there’s still quite a bit of game left to enjoy with the Puppet Ripper.

And finally, in the top spot, it of course has to be the Two Dragon’s Sword. Not only is this katana-like blade hinted to be integral in both Alidoro’s and Eugenie’s side quests, but it’s also obtained early enough that players can get their fair share of time with it before having to hop into NG+.

The primary reason the Two Dragon’s Sword is in first place is simply because it doesn’t follow the rules that all the other weapons in Lies of P seem to follow. Players can move while attacking using this thing, cover large distances using its heavy attacks, block while attacking if they nail the timing correctly, and even send their sword slashes flying forward using pure energy.
