It’s a sad day in a supposedly democratic country when we would need to worry about what others think regarding a memorial. This is our country, and no other country or leader has the right to control what we do or don’t do.

Our history is constantly being rewritten and erased because it “offends” someone. History serves a purpose, and maybe that’s why we record it. Good, bad or ugly, it is supposed to teach us to not repeat what’s happened in the past if it’s of the bad or ugly kind. No group has the right to demand that we tear down statutes or change the name of this or that. History doesn’t belong to just them, it belongs to all of us.

Personally, I don’t see a reason for this particular memorial unless it’s a sign of things to come here in Canada, and under this government I wouldn’t be surprised. We have other issues to spend our tax dollars on, which is why, to me, this memorial was totally unnecessary and yet another waste of our money.

NO GUILT WHILE WE SUFFER

A Postmedia article about Justin Trudeau and an $84,000 free vacation in Jamaica gave a glimpse into who he really is. He states he understands how tough it is for Canadians, then accepts a free family vacation gift from a friend. He was born of wealth and feels no guilt for accepting a gift worth more than most Canucks make in a year while also suffering due to his poor economic policies.

SENS SUCK

Let’s face facts; except for a couple of seasons, the “Senasnores,” as the late great Earl McRae used to call them, suck.

There seems to be excuse after excuse: the coach, the goalie, lack of toughness, no scoring, no power play. Many thought that kicking former bench boss D.J. Smith to the curb would be their answer, but the former coach must have a bit of a smile on his face now. Interim line caller Jacques Martin is yesterday’s man.

Pro leagues have perennial also-rans, and our Sens fit that bill perfectly.
