Fortnite fans are expressing their disappointment after a fun quest in battle royale shooter Fortnite appears to have been scrapped by Epic Games before it could see the light of day.

The quest in question apparently challenged players to ‘Spend 5 minutes touching grass’ – and while this is certainly advice that could be aimed at plenty of angry online gamers, this quest took a more tongue in cheek spin, requiring players to actually touch some grass in-game to complete the mission and early XP. Alas, it seems it’ll be no more – as Fortnite leaker Hypex revealed on their X (formerly Twitter) account, much to the chagrin of fans.

“Why do they always cancel the fun stuff?” asks DefaultsBR. Similarly, KartaFortnite responded with “Literally the best quest ever and it’s cancelled?” adding a crying face emoji. “Come on, this was actually a fun quest,” agrees Spookyymello. “I think we all know why it’s gone.”

Epic themselves have not given a reason for not proceeding with the quest – although it had never formerly announced it in the first place – so it’s not clear if the quest may end up coming after all in a future update, or if it was just deemed too mean spirited to go ahead.

It’s not the first time features found by leakers have gone AWOL of course – at the time of writing, such purported additions like a first person mode and even skateboards have been long claimed to be coming to the battle royale shooter. But with the ever changing development of the game, some things are bound to fall by the wayside.

For now, players will have to wait and see if their chance to touch grass comes back in some form – or if they’ll have to settle for trying to do so in real life.
