Back when I was but a young gaming Padawan navigating the tedium that was school life, something that was all the rage was those digital pets like Tamogachis and Digimon. You played with them, cared for them, and then inevitably accidentally let them die, and now you can relive it all over again as Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago receives its launch date.
Yolk Heroes throws hundreds of years of biological study out of the window and sees players hatching humanoid Elves out of eggs under the order of the Fairy Queen. It is then up to you to nurture these young, vulnerable fledglings, before launching them face-first into relentless combat – parenting classes be damned.
In order to defend the realm against the coming of the Dark Lord and all his nefarious minions, you will have to raise your young charge in classic Tamagotchi style; feed them, clean them, and concoct a vigorous personalised training regime including strength, dexterity, and intelligence exercises so they can battle the forces of evil.
As real life calls you away from your phone, your hero won’t stay idle. Instead, they will go out to complete quests where they can, although they will occasionally give you a shout when needed. Of course, a life of adventure is rife with peril, so your friend may end up on the wrong end of a spear at some point. Luckily, the Fairy Queen is quite the hoarder and has a plethora of eggs for you to try again.
Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago will be launching March 19th and will be available on the App Store and Google Play, whether or not you feel ready to be a parent, just remember it has a Kobold kitted out in fully Saturday Night Fever garb called the Diskobold, and do you really need any more reason than this?
