The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has assigned an official rating to Little Nightmares: Enhanced Edition for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This is huge because it is pretty much confirmation that a remaster for these platforms is on the way. This follows an earlier rating from South Africa’s Film and Publication Board in January 2023.
Developer Tarsier Studios or publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment still needs to confirm and acknowledge details about the Enhanced Edition. The ESRB description offers some insight, classifying the game as an adventure platformer where players control Six, a young girl navigating a nightmarish world. The current rating is a T for Teen. A rating issued in January 2023 by the South African Film and Publication Board (Thanks Gematsu) precedes this one.
The rating highlights the game’s darker elements, including enemies that can kill Six through various means, environmental hazards like blood stains, and a hanging corpse. This is what we expect, but the interesting part is the mention of the sequence where players can electrocute a character. This aligns with the tone of the original Little Nightmares, praised for its unsettling atmosphere and challenging puzzles.
Little Nightmares initially launched in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, later followed by mobile versions for iOS and Android. Although no remaster was mentioned, these ratings come from games submitted by developers and publishers, so it seems legitimate.
While no official announcement regarding the Enhanced Edition has been made, the ESRB rating serves as a strong indicator that a next-gen and PC release is likely soon. We expect what we always see from these kinds of remasters. The game looks better, performance is enhanced, and maybe a few secret editions.
Sometimes, enhanced editions come with art books and soundtracks, but we don’t know exactly what would come with a remake. There are times when it’s just a game. We’ll have to wait and see what the developer says.
