A Starfield player made an unsettling discovery while exploring, happening upon a spaceship filled with dead occupants and clues to their past. The creepy scenario highlights Starfield‘s detailed universe, which is filled with tailor-made encounters like this one.
Starfield was released in 2023, and it has since become one of the year’s best games on Xbox Game Pass. Like other Bethesda titles, Starfield fans were drawn in by the game’s rich universe and detailed side quests. As a player traipses from one main quest to the next, it’s not uncommon to happen upon an interesting scenario where the user is given the option to intervene. Often, the player can choose to help, rob, or hurt the characters they come in contact with during these encounters, but for this Starfield player, things were a bit different this time around.
The Unwritten Rules of Starfield Explained
Starfield’s community has begun to crack the code on what types of helpful habits players should adopt or avoid while playing the massive RPG.
Reddit user Bmpin884187 posted a series of screenshots that detailed their creepy discovery. While exploring outer space in Starfield, the user stumbled upon a derelict spaceship called Clemens’ Truth. Upon entering the ship, they found dead bodies spread around its interior, with boxes of poisonous orange juice sitting on a table. A note left behind by one of the deceased occupants explained that the group was a cult, and had committed mass suicide while flying in the trail of the Clemens Comet, in hopes of becoming one with the “great celestial body.” This encounter seems to be referencing two infamous cults, the Heaven’s Gate cult, which committed a similar act as the Hale-Bopp comet passed by Earth, and the Peoples Temple cult, which used a Kool-Aid knockoff to administer poison to its believers.
While the scenario is rather dark, commenting fans were impressed by another display of Starfield‘s level of detail. Bethesda does not shy away from implementing creepy encounters in their games, like when another Starfield player discovered a massive boneyard on Mars, with human skulls embedded in rocks. These chance discoveries only help to immerse users even deeper into Starfield‘s rich universe. Although Starfield fans are often excited to learn about new encounters within their favorite game, they have other reasons to be excited about the game’s future as well.
Starfield is receiving its first major expansion later this year. Bethesda has revealed little about the DLC but has confirmed that it will feature new storylines, locations, and gear for players to enjoy. Some fans are hoping that the DLC will shed light on the mysterious House Va’ruun, a powerful force within Starfield‘s universe that remains shrouded in mystery.
