Like every year, The Game Awards 2023 was expected to showcase some high-profile games still in development, and Death Stranding 2 was one of the projects rumored to make an appearance. However, Death Stranding 2 was not shown, and it joined the list of other anticipated games that were missing from The Game Awards 2023. Since this disappointing development, many Death Stranding fans have been hungry for any official news regarding the sequel, and as the new year was ushered in, Kojima offered some interesting information on his plans for 2024.
5 Death Stranding Characters We Hope to See in the Sequel
Death Stranding is filled with unique and interesting characters, and the game’s sequel should bring back at least a few of them.
In a tweet, the game designer explained that 2024 will be a year of “simultaneous production” for Death Stranding 2 and his intriguing new horror game, OD. He further detailed that Death Stranding 2 still has voice recordings that need to be finished, and that work on its Japanese voice-overs will begin soon. While this isn’t the most expansive update from Kojima, fans will likely be relieved to know that it sounds like Death Stranding 2 is nearing the end of its development. Kojima usually remains tight-lipped about his projects, so any information is probably welcome news to many fans.
What Are Kojima’s Plans for 2024?
- Continue working on Death Stranding 2 (ADR and voice-overs)
- Collaborate with crew on new horror game, OD
- Work on the movie version of Death Stranding
- Work on other video productions
Kojima also explained that his 2024 will include shooting for OD, collaborating with the Avengers (his jokey name for the all-star crew that he’s assembled for OD), making Death Stranding into a movie, and working on other video productions. Clearly, Kojima is ambitious, and it sounds like he has plenty of projects to fill up his 2024 schedule.
Death Stranding 2‘s first trailer was released over a year ago now, and fans are still wondering about many of the details that it revealed. Things like Sam’s sudden aging, Fragile’s repaired skin, and Elle Fanning’s character are just some of the questions that fans are hoping to have answered in Death Stranding 2‘s next trailer. While Kojima fans are excited for Death Stranding‘s sequel, many are equally excited about his mysterious new horror game, OD.
Jordan Peele is probably the most exciting collaborator working on OD with Kojima. Peele has a successful background in directing Hollywood horror movies like Get Out, Nope, and Us. It’s still not entirely clear what Peele’s role is in OD‘s production, but it’s probably safe to assume that he’s going to help Kojima deliver another impressive game.
