The addition of Runes in SoD has changed up how players approach the game, as each of the game’s 12 Runes for each class must be unlocked via new seasonal methods. Some Runes share the same unlock methods, like the Runes players can get for raising their Waylaid Supplies faction rep to Friendly.
WoW Season of Discovery: Best DPS Classes in SoD, Ranked
All nine classes in WoW Season of Discovery can play the DPS role, but some are capable of putting out much higher numbers than others.
Similarly, each class has one Rune locked behind a series of quests that begin in the Barrens, specifically Ratchet. By following this guide to where to find Grizzby, and how to complete Grizzby’s quests, each class will gain access to a new Rune. But it’s not an easy quest line, and requires quite the lengthy grind for a number of highly sought-after items.
Grizzby Location & Quests’ Prerequisites
To get to Grizzby, you must find a way to get to Ratchet. Once there, he can be found in the back of the Inn, which itself is located above Ratchet on its southern rise. Walk behind the innkeeper and into the bunks to find Grizzby.
- For members of the Horde, this is pretty easy – just go east from the Crossroads along the road.
- Alliance players will have to either get a portal to Booty Bay and take the boat to Ratchet, or travel through Ashenvale and south through the Barrens to reach the city, though there are a lot of Horde guards. Alliance members can also take a boat to Theramore from Menethil Harbor and swim up the coastline to reach Ratchet by sea.
To begin Grizzby’s collection quest, players must have reached at least Level 20. Once the quest is complete, each Rune costs five Gold to purchase. At max level, quests convert what would have been the XP reward to extra Gold – just complete a few quests at level 25 to get enough Gold if you don’t have it on hand when going to complete the quest.
Grizzby Quests Walkthrough
If you have enough Gold, Grizzby will offer you a series of collection quests that must be completed to gain access to his stock of Runes. Each class in SoD has a Grizzby Rune, so every class has an incentive to get this series of quests completed.
WoW Season of Discovery: What Are Waylaid Supplies?
Waylaid Supplies are a new WoW SoD unique item that grants reputation and a small chunk of rewards, which scale when filled with specific items.
There are three parts to the quest chain, but they don’t really operate like normal quests. That is, they aren’t added to one’s Quest Log, and are only completable if players have the required items on their person. To save time, it’s not a bad idea to get all the Grizzby items before talking to him, but buying them from the Auction House can set players back a considerable amount of Gold.
Part 1: Fish Oil
Grizzby requires 24 Fish Oil to complete the first part of the quest chain. Fish Oil can be found on a huge variety of sources, including Murlocs and Naga. Farm Naga in the Zoram Strand, and Murlocs in Westfall or Silverpine Forest, to get Fish Oil faster.
Part 2: Dark Iron Ordinance
For this part of the quest chain, Grizzby requires 20 Dark Iron Ordinance. This item only drops from a small group of enemies on the border of the Wetlands and the Arathi Highlands. This group of elite Dark Iron Dwarves are all Elites and several levels above 25. Take a full, balanced group to farm this item effectively.
Part 3: Shredder Turbochargers
Grizzby’s final request is to bring him 16 Shredder Turbochargers. This special item can only be acquired by using a Shredder Autosalvage Unit, an item only Engineers can make, on a Shredder enemy. Shredders can be found in the Stonetalon Mountains, but each Autosalvage Unit has a chance to not yield a Shredder Turbocharger. Plan to purchase, or make, at least 24 of these to guarantee that you receive at least 16 Turbochargers.
All Runes Available From Grizzby
Once all quests have been turned in, and all items collected, Grizzby’s Runes will become available to buy for five Gold apiece. Each class has one Rune, with some much more useful than others. Tank Rogues, Healing Mages and Priests, and Warriors will especially want to get this questline done as soon as they can.
