Starfield: Every Faction, Ranked
There are many factions in Starfield that hold different views, powers, and interesting characters. Yet, which of them are the best to join?
Before players proceed to New Game+, there are several details to consider and tasks that preferably should be completed. This is only relevant to the first run that players do before New Game+, and after that, it doesn’t matter too much in terms of experience what players do or don’t complete during their runs. At the end of the day, Starfield’s New Game+ is a feature that continues to split opinions regarding how and when it should be done, so players seriously considering it should only take these tips as suggestions rather than rules set in stone.
Updated on December 29, 2023, by Anastasia Maillot: Starfield has been out for several months by now, and although the game has received plenty of criticism, it continues to garner new players as well. As such, many might be wondering about the utility of New Game+ and what exactly it means to proceed with it. Not much has changed regarding the actual New Game+ feature, but there are a few additional activities that players may want to complete before they move on to the actual endgame of Starfield. Here’s what to do in Starfield before New Game+.
WARNING! Major Starfield story spoilers ahead.
6 Unlock Research Trees Fully
Research Is One Feature That Is Carried Over To A New Game+
Players will lose many things once they proceed to the Unity—ships, weapons, relationships with NPCs, and so on. However, any research that has been unlocked by interacting with the Research Lab station will be kept and carried over.
While it isn’t required to max out all the research progress before a New Game+, it will definitely help out a lot at the beginning of a new game to have all the progress available and access to some of the equipment, outpost stuff, and healing items among other things that players can get through Research Labs. Moreover, it’s a good way to spend any leftover resources, since money and the rest of the player’s inventory will basically be wiped.
5 Go To All The Temples
Unlock The Starborn Powers Fully
During the first run of the game, Vladimir from the Constellation will task the players with fetching pieces for the artifact to build what’s eventually known as the Armillary. On top of that, they’ll also need to visit various temples to acquire power.
It’s recommended to do them all once during the first playthrough of the game before proceeding to New Game+, as these powers will be buffed as players eventually progress into becoming a Starborn themselves. Although powers aren’t necessary for Starfield’s gameplay, they are quite fun to play around with, and some of them are highly underrated.
4 Romance Someone
Complete At Least One NPC’s Full Personal Questline
Before proceeding to New Game+, players will have a chance to find out what will happen in the world that they’re leaving behind—including what their romance partner will end up doing. It’s a nice little endgame feature and acts as a proper send-off to any companions that players may have grown close to.
Starfield: 10 Biggest Pieces Of Lore
Starfield has plenty of lore for players to discover, and these tidbits are both the most important and most fascinating.
So, before heading into the Unity, make sure to complete the personal quest of a companion. Even better, get married to them, as they can provide some interesting insight afterward regarding the player’s choices when it comes to entering the Unity. While all Constellation characters will comment on it, there’s something special about the opinion of a romanced partner that will make the transition bittersweet.
3 Level Up As Much As Possible
Skills Will Carry Over To New Game+, So The More, The Better
There’s no need to rush to New Game+. In fact, the stronger the player is, the more enjoyable the experience will ultimately be, especially in the starting areas of the game which they will inevitably visit once again. Since skills and skill points and levels are all carried over to New Game+, it’s a huge boon to go in strong to get a nice headstart.
In fact, being high-level lets players jump into better systems right off the bat to start grabbing that good loot and those powerful weapons. The biggest gripe with New Game+ is losing all items and credits, but with higher levels and the right skill perks, building all that inventory back up will be a breeze. Hence, it might not be ideal to rush through just the main quest of Starfield to get to New Game+.
2 Complete All Faction Quests
New Game+ Will Allow Players To Explore Their Alternative Outcomes
A huge part of progressing into the Unity, and New Game+, is finding out what all those major choices led to as players leave their current dimension to go to the next one. That’s why it’s absolutely vital for the sake of gameplay and replayability that players finish all four faction quests.
10 Early Quests That Shouldn’t Be Skipped In Starfield
If players new to Starfield are wondering where to begin, these quests are a good place to get the ball rolling.
Knowing what happened after they left can help decide what kind of choices to make in the next dimension as a Starborn. Siding with the UC Fleet instead of the Crimson Fleet may have been ideal for peace in the galaxy, but what if players went with Delgado next as a Starborn? Perhaps they regret allowing Ryujin Industries to develop a mind control device and wish to stop them effectively in the next life. Or, maybe it’s all about saving everyone in the Constellation.
The multiverse is their oyster, but there’s no way to know what could have been if players rushed through the main quest only without completing the side stories.
1 Prepare To Let Go
Understand That All Items, Ships, And Outposts Will Be Lost
It’s definitely not an easy choice to proceed to New Game+. Players will gain some, but also lose a lot. For some, the cost will be too high to bear and they might never wish to proceed into a new multiverse, which is completely fine as well. That said, experiencing the start of New Game+ at least once is recommended—just make sure to have an alternate save file backed up to return to the moment before entering the Unity.
Those who are committed to progressing forward and following in the footsteps of the Hunter and the Emissary will likely still have to say goodbye to everything they have achieved. Outposts, items, survey data, quests, ships, and such will all be taken away. In return, however, players will first earn the Starborn Astra suit, as well as a Starborn ship, both of which are quite powerful early in the game in New Game+. Every iteration of New Game+ will provide players with an upgraded armor set, up until the 10th time.
