NieR: Automata producer Yosuke Saito is up to something, and that something might finally be revealed in 2024.
We hear from Saito-san as part of a group interview published on Famitsu, where he mentions that his keyword for the coming year is “Surprise.”
He then mentions that he’s working on various things so that he can implement the keyword “Surprise” in the early part of 2024.
Funnily, he also adds that he needs to do something to correct his personality so that he can say “no” when asked, or he may die soon.
Workaholic jokes (but are they really jokes) aside, he goes on to ask us to please wait a little longer for a “big announcement.” On top of that, Saito-san also reminds that the second cour of the NieR: Automata anime is coming.
While we don’t know for sure that the big announcements and surprises are related to the NieR franchise, most of Saito-san’s work over the past few years has been with Yoko Taro.
Together, they worked on the original NieR, NieR: Automata, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, NieR Re[in]carnation, the NieR: Automata raid in Final Fantasy XIV, and the Voice of Cards trilogy.
Just a few days ago, Saito-san did some more teasing, and earlier this year he expressed confidence that Yoko Taro would do another NieR game at some point, pledging to find the budget for it when that happens.
Considering that NieR: Automata has sold over 7.5 million copies, it shouldn’t be too hard to convince the executives at Square Enix to fork over said budget.
Of course, we can’t exclude the possibility that Saito-san may be talking about something else entirely, the Voice of Cards series surely came from the left field, after all.
Yet, I will continue to try to will another NieR game into existence, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
If 2B can be in pretty much every game in the universe, including the recently released Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, she can get another game of her own, can’t she?
