The Day Before Will Be Retired and Servers Will Be Turned Off

The dream of a zombie-infested open world is officially laid to rest. Just months after its tumultuous launch, The Day Before will bid a permanent farewell on January 22, 2024, as its servers are turned off. This follows a very unpopular launch and is more of a curtain call for a project plagued by controversy and technical woes.

This tweet from the developers signals the end of the entire fiasco. Fntastic’s abrupt exit leaves a bitter taste in players’ mouths. Many feel scammed, pointing to the game’s buggy launch and questionable marketing tactics as evidence. Glitches riddled the game, and instead of fixing any of them, the development team left the project after four days.

The official tweet acknowledges the community’s support but offers little solace for their disappointment. It confirms Steam will automatically refund all remaining purchases, highlighting Mytona’s (the game’s investor) involvement in facilitating the process. While this promises financial restitution, it does little to mend the broken promises and dashed hopes of many would-be fans.

I’ve seen some reviews on what the four days after release were like. Even with the ability to play single-player, you’ll likely not have a very good time anyway. We’ve not seen a good reception for the game altogether.

If you have yet to get a refund, now is your chance. The Day Before is always an online game, so you’ll be unable to play with the servers off. Based on the tweet, we can assume that getting a refund is automatic regardless of how long you played for. Since the investor is working with Steam, it sounds like there won’t be a problem there.
