The news that E3 has closed its doors for good is very sad. It was an institution, but on the other hand, step aside, as everything you need to know about gaming is available right now, thanks to the Pocket Gamer Awards 2023. Over 350,000 of you rabid fans came together to knight the best of the best in mobile.
You can have the best game in the world, but it is nothing without a strong following, and that’s what the Best Community Award is for. Devsisters have done excellent work making Cookie Run: Kingdom inviting thanks to their humour, and Pokemon Go is all about the community, but they were both foiled by Midoki’s Knighthood, and it’s hard to disagree.
Mobile has always had a huge offering of RPGs, so it is a very difficult category to win. Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is iconic right off the bat, and you can get lost in Torchlight: Infinite’s level of customisation for hours, however, there’s one thing no one can beat; anime girls. Goddess of Victory: Nikke is the Best Role Playing Game 2023, very impressive.
We couldn’t leave it without the big cheese, the head honcho, the be-all and end-all; the Mobile Game of the Year. Vampire Survivors tried to bask in the title’s glow and turned to dust, EA Sports FC Mobile 24 got hit by a gust of wind and is now flailing on the ground, leaving just one. Round of applause please, for Tencent’s truly spectacular tactical FPS; Arena Breakout.
To get the lowdown on the rest of the winners, check out the Pocket Gamer Awards 2023 on, surprising, Pocket Gamer, and poke around there for some of the best mobile articles on the website, although I hear that guy over at AppSpy is also pretty good.
