Insomniac Games, the renowned developer behind Marvel’s Spider-Man game series, faced an unfortunate incident as it came to light that they fell victim to a cyberattack by the Ransomware operator known as Rhysida. Cyberdaily was the first to report the breach, revealing that Rhysida not only launched the attack but also leaked limited data to support its claim that it had successfully hacked Insomniac Games.
The leaked documents reportedly include personal information of employees and confidential records outlining Insomniac’s future gaming endeavors. Today, details of the exposed documents have surfaced online, unveiling upcoming titles in the development pipeline.
Reddit user u/sut345 shared findings from the leaked documents, suggesting that Insomniac Games is working on titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 (indicated by the codename SM3) and a Spider-Verse game. Another mysterious project, identified by the codename RCE, was also mentioned but many speculate that it could be referring to Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart as it was apparently codenamed “Ratchet and Clank Eternal” while in development.
Insomniac Games had previously hinted at a third multiplayer AAA project alongside Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, but details about this project remain tightly under wraps. Consequently, it is unclear if Spider-Man 3 or the Spider-Verse game is the unannounced project in question.
It is truly a disconcerting experience for developers when future projects have been leaked as it can potentially impact the anticipation of fans eagerly awaiting new releases. However, the future is unpredictable, and plans may always undergo revisions. As such, the leaked documents do not conclusively confirm that a Spider-Verse game is currently in development. Fans will have to await an official statement from the Insomniac for confirmation.
Sony confirmed that they are aware of reports that Insomniac Games has been the victim of a cyber security attack. The tech giant assured that they are investigating this situation.
