OD’s Trailer Seemingly Contains References to Hideo Kojima’s Cancelled Silent Hills

With Hideo Kojima having unveiled his studio’s next game, OD, recently during The Game Awards 2023, the Internet has already gotten to work to decode hidden messages that the developer typically likes to sneak into his announcements. The TGA 2023 trailer for OD has been discovered to feature an interesting message, potentially nodding at Kojima’s cancelled Silent Hills.

The trailer for OD, which features characters from the game staring at a camera and talking, seems to have a hidden message. The characters have letters hidden in their mouths, which come together to spell out the word “ATAMI”, as discovered by Reddit user Turik2507.

While the meaning behind the word is currently unknown, the fanbase currently believes that it might be a reference to the Silent Hill franchise. The city of Atami is based in the Shizuoka region of Japan, which is where many believe the fictional city of Silent Hill to be located. Lending further credence to the nods to Silent Hills is the fact that, during the presentation for OD at The Game Awards 2023, both Kojima, as well as film director Jordan Peele walked out through a door that bears a resemblance to the one from PT.

Currently, there are no real details on OD aside from the reveal trailer. The game is being developed on the Unreal Engine, and is making use of Metahuman technology. It is also confirmed to be a horror title, with Kojima describing it as “a game, but also a movie”.

OD is slated to star Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. The game currently doesn’t have a release date.
