Highlights

  • Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will feature the regions of The Anderfels, which will likely include the capital city Hossberg, possibly adding a political element to the game.
  • Weisshaupt Fortress, the Grey Warden headquarters, is likely to make an appearance in Dreadwolf, possibly introducing new Grey Warden companions or bringing back familiar faces.
  • Qundalon, a Qunari colony, and Kal-Sharok, a dwarven city, could also be potential locations in Dreadwolf, offering players the opportunity to visit new and unique settlements.

BioWare recently dropped a new Dragon Age: Dreadwolf teaser for Dragon Age Day 2023. This teaser showcased the regions that will appear in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf alongside Tevinter. One of these regions that was shown was The Anderfels, which will be making its debut in the next entry of the franchise.

The Anderfels has only ever appeared in the novels Dragon Age: Last Flight and Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights. There’s a particular character who has a connection to the Anderfels, and that is Dragon Age‘s Anders. Considering Anders is a Grey Warden deserter and has familial ties to the Anderfels, there could be a chance that he will appear in Dreadwolf. As well as having a connection to Anders, The Anderfels is also best known for being the home of the Grey Warden headquarters, Weisshaupt Fortress, and this fortress is likely to make an appearance in Dreadwolf alongside other locations.

Hossberg

Hossberg is the capital city of the Anderfels. Not much is known about Hossberg, but it is located to the northwest of Weisshaupt Fortress and the monarchy of the Anderfels is situated in this city. However, the monarchy is seen as weak by the citizens of the Anderfels, and they have since begun looking towards the Grey Wardens for guidance and leadership. With Hossberg being the capital city of the Anderfels, it could possibly appear in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, especially if there is a political element in the game. Perhaps the player will have to choose between supporting the Grey Wardens or the monarchy.

Weisshaupt Fortress

Weisshaupt Fortress is located in the southern Anderfels, functioning as the main base of operations for the Grey Wardens after being built during the First Blight. The Grey Wardens chose to build the Fortress on the edge of a desert called the Broken Tooth because it was an area that had only been lightly hit by the Darkspawn, unlike the other regions of Thedas. Weisshaupt Fortress has been mentioned throughout the Dragon Age games and a representation of it was briefly seen in the Fade in Dragon Age: Origins.

Long ago, the Grey Wardens had great power and influence in Thedas. Dragon Age’s Weisshaupt Fortress now has only a few hundred Wardens, and the current First Warden is more interested in dabbling with Anderfels politics. With how frequently Weisshaupt Fortress is mentioned and it being the Grey Warden headquarters, it would be no surprise if the fortress appeared in Dreadwolf, allowing players to visit it for the first time outside the Fade. Weisshaupt Fortress would be the perfect opportunity to present a new Grey Warden companion, or even reintroduce some old faces from the previous games.

Qundalon

Qundalon is a Qunari colony located in the northeast of the Anderfels but is not part of Anders territory. Not much is known about Qundalon, but considering that there could be a potential war with the Qunari in Dreadwolf due to tension with the Qunari and the rest of Thedas, then there could be a chance that Qundalon will appear in the next game. It would certainly be a new experience for players to visit a Qunari settlement.

Kal-Sharok

Kal-Sharok is a dwarven city located beneath Hunterhorn Mountain near the border between the Anderfels and Orlais. Kal-Sharok is one of the last dwarven kingdoms on the continent of Thedas alongside Orzammar. Long ago, Kal-Sharok was the capital city of the dwarven empire, but during the Darkspawn invasion in the First Blight, Kal-Sharok was forced to close the passages that led to other thaigs in order to save Orzammar from the Darkspawn.

In the year 9:12 Dragon, Kal-Sharok was rediscovered, and it was revealed that the city had survived the First Blight. With roughly 952 years of isolation, the dwarves of Kal-Sharok have become reclusive and extremely hesitant to re-establish communication with the surface world of Thedas. It seems that the Kal-Sharok dwarves have possibly become tainted in some way and are depicted as looking paler than the average dwarf. This could be down to their isolation and their previous interaction with the Darkspawn.

During the events of Inquisition, the dwarves of Kal-Sharok aided the Inquisition in the fight against Corypheus and the Venatori. With their involvement with the Inquisition and being one of the remaining dwarven cities, Kal-Sharok could make an appearance in Dreadwolf. It would certainly be fascinating to visit a new dwarven city that isn’t abandoned and riddled with Darkspawn.

There are many other locations within The Anderfels that could appear in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. These include Kassel, which is the largest river port in Thedas and the richest city in The Anderfels, and Laysh, which is where the Anderfels’ Templar headquarters is located.
