Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

Highlights

Antiva, along with Rivain and The Anderfels, will be introduced as new countries in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, marking the first appearance of Antiva in the Dragon Age games.
Antiva City is the capital of Antiva and is known for its dangerous yet alluring atmosphere, with notable locations including the Archive of the Crows and the Perfumed Spring.
Seleny and the Tellari Swamps are two other locations within Antiva that players may have the opportunity to explore, with the latter being home to a high dragon and the former having ties to the mysterious Witch of the Wilds, Yavana.

Antiva has been announced by BioWare as one of the three new countries that will appear alongside Tevinter in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. It was showcased alongside Rivain and The Anderfels in the teaser trailer for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf that was released for Dragon Age Day 2023.

Antiva hasn’t been seen in the previous Dragon Age games, so Dreadwolf will be the first time that Antiva will grace players’ screens. Antiva is well known for being the home country of Dragon Age Inquisition’s Josephine Montilyet and Zevran Arainai, and it’ll be interesting to see if these two characters will make an appearance in Dreadwolf. Not only is Antiva known for its range of characters, but it is also known for the renowned Antivan Crows, who will certainly make an appearance in Dreadwolf. However, Antiva isn’t just home to the Crows, but also a wide variety of locations, including Treviso, which has been teased quite a bit by BioWare.

Dragon Age: Antiva Has More Established Lore Than You Think

Dragon Age games have not yet visited Antiva, but there are rumors that the nation may play a large role in Dragon Age 4.

All Important Locations Within Antiva

Antiva City

Antiva City is a port city located on the western side of Rialto Bay. It is Antiva’s capital city, as well as the home city of Josephine Montilyet and Zevran Arainai. Antiva City is described to be a romantic and beautiful city with an added danger lurking around every corner. It is well known for its number of brothels and for being the main base of operations for the Antivan Crows. The brothels tend to foster orphaned children and will at times sell them to the Antivan Crows, which is one of the ways the Antivan Crows bolster their ranks. The Antivan Crows are both feared and admired by the populace of the city. It seems very likely that Antiva City will make an appearance in Dreadwolf, and with the potential involvement of the Antivan Crows, Zevran Arainai could make a return and grace the players with his presence for the first time since Dragon Age 2.

There are some notable locations within Antiva City which seem to range from extravagant and beautiful to dangerous and deadly:

Archive of the Crows: A secret deadly repository of The Antivan Crows. This deadly building is full of booby-traps designed to kill unwary trespassers.
The Perfumed Spring: One of Antiva City’s many brothels.
Royal Bank of Antiva: A bank where the royal vaults are located.
Velabanchel: An infamous prison belonging to the Antivan Crows.
The Palace of the Kings: A part of the Royal Palace, a statue of Queen Asha of Antiva watches over the entrance.
The Boulevard of the Seas: A street with magnificent green and blue tiles decorating the ground.
The Golden Plaza: A plaza with a myriad of golden statues.
The Royal Palace: The palace of the reigning monarch of Antiva, King Fulgeno the Second.

Seleny

Seleny is a town situated on a river and is well known for its elegant bridges and remarkable sculptures. Unlike the majority of Antivan cities, Seleny is not located on the coastlines of the country, but instead it is in the middle of the country. Seleny has had a tumultuous past. During the Fourth Blight, it was one of the first cities to be destroyed, and in the Steel Age, the Qunari laid siege to the town, until a Witch of the Wilds called Yavana allegedly summoned a dragon to chase off the Qunari. There does not seem to be too much in Seleny’s recent history that could connect it to the potential events of Dreadwolf. However, the town is located near the Tellari Swamps and could provide players with side quests that tie into the nearby swamp.

Tellari Swamps

The Tellari Swamps is home to a mighty high dragon and formerly the home of Morrigan’s sister, Yavana, the notorious Witch of the Wilds of Antiva. The swamp is situated in a marshland at the head of a major river in Antiva. In the comic book Dragon Age: The Silent Grove, King Alistair of Ferelden, Dragon Age’s Varric Tethras, and Isabela ventured into the swamp in search of Yavana. The trio previously learned that the people of Seleny fear the swamp and will outright refuse to guide anyone through it, no matter how much of a fortune is on offer.

Deep within the swamp is a sanctum built for dragons known as the Silent Grove. Yavana is said to have been the keeper of this sanctum and was able to sooth the dragon that resides there. The Tellari Swamps and the Silent Grove could provide an exciting quest line and allow players to explore this foreboding swamp. However, players might not be able to meet Yavana, because in the Silent Grove, she was killed by Dragon Age’s Alistair. Considering player choices, if Alistair is not king of Ferelden, she could potentially still be alive in the timeline where he is a Grey Warden instead. It would be interesting to see if BioWare does find a way to include her in Dreadwolf in some way.

Treviso

Treviso is a port city in the north of Antiva and is situated on the coast of Rialto Bay and is somewhat close to the border of Rivain. Treviso is well known for being the place where the Antivan Crows originated. A notable resident of Treviso is Illario Dellamorte, a master assassin of the Antivan Crows. Dreadwolf could be an opportunity for Illario Dellamorte to make an appearance, maybe as a companion or a figure in the story of Treviso. The Dragon Age Day teasers seem to be indicating that Treviso will appear in Dreadwolf. As well as potentially appearing in Dreadwolf, it could also be where a potential companion is located. It would be a great addition if a new Antivan Crow was introduced as a companion.

If the short story As We Fly is set after Trespasser, then players could encounter the Qunari in the city, and potentially meet the Crow siblings, Noe and Neri de Acutis. Players could even have a face-off with Daathratha the Butcher, who is the leader of the Qunari occupation in Treviso.

There are many other notable locations within Antiva worth mentioning that could appear in Dreadwolf, including locations such as Rialto Bay, the Verdant Isle which appeared in Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights, and Genellan, which Zevran visited as part of his second mission with the Antivan Crows. As well as many other locations that players will visit when Dragon Age: Dreadwolf releases.
