Frost Giant Studios launched today a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for its upcoming RTS game Stormgate, and it reached its funding goal almost immediately.
While the goal was a relatively modest $100,000, it was reached in 15 minutes and the campaign is already at $404,000 at the moment of this writing (in 2.5 hours from the beginning of the campaign), with nearly 3,800 backers and 57 days to go on the clock.
The goal may seem small for an ambitious game like Stormgate, but that’s because the development of the game itself is already funded. The campaign is to produce a physical Collector’s Edition.
Turns out people still like physical Collector’s Editions, so Stormgate fans are flocking to support it on Kickstarter.
That being said, additional funding will also have gameplay consequences via Stretch goals. At $500,000, additional 3vE Weekly Mutators will be implemented, while at $700,000 there will be a new player assist tool.
It’s worth mentioning that if you do want the Collector’s Edition box that is the focus of the campaign, you need to pledge at least at the $200 level. Any pledge at $40 or above gives you access to wave 1 of the 2024 beta that will start in February next year.
The developers also released a video introducing the whole project, which you can watch below.
We also get a second video introducing the main members of the team and introducing their competencies and resumes. There certainly is plenty of RTS pedigree at Frost Giant.
If you’re not familiar with Stormgate, it’s a Starcraft spiritual successor being developed in Unreal Engine 5 by a team built around a core of Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 veterans. It was revealed in June 2022 and then showcased at several events including the PC Gaming show in June and Gamescom in August.
Recently, we heard more about the results of the past alpha test. The game doesn’t yet have a firm release date, but it’s coming to PC via Steam.
