The Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2953 event just ended in Star Citizen, but Cloud Imperium Games has more content in store.
First of all, today we get a new video showcasing the part of the Pyro system that limited slice of the game’s players recently had a chance to test out.
Pyro is a lawless system adjoining the current Stanton, populated by pirates and ruthless gangs. It’ll be fully implemented in version 4.0 which should come next year.
We hear from the developers, who talk about the implementation of the system, which is completely different from Stanton in terms of visuals, atmosphere, and even gameplay.
You can check out the video below and hear directly from them.
The end of the IAE 2953 event marks the largest event ever for Star Citizen in terms of crowdfunding. In the two weeks of the event since November 14, the backers have pledged nearly $24 million (more precisely $23,785,939 according to the Star Citizen Funding Dashboard by CCU Game).
This beats the previous record held by IAE 2952 last year, which earned just north of $21,6 million, while the third-ranked event was inevitably IAE 2951 in 2021, which earned just south of %19.7 million.
Not only did the event include the biggest day ever for the game, earning $3.5 million on November 25, but November 2023 is now the biggest month in Star Citizen‘s crowdfunding history, with $28 million.
2023 is also on track to be the biggest year ever for Star Citizen. It only needs to pass $5 million in December to break 2022’s record, which should be easy to achieve.
In total, the game’s crowdfunding campaign has just passed $649 million, and it’s sitting precisely at $649,014,295 at the moment of this writing, with 4,957,384 registered users. As usual, not all of them are paying customers, as many join for free fly events without backing the game.
Star Citizen is a crowdfunded game born from the mind of Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts. If you want to experience its promise, you can check out a recent and rather impressive tech demo.
A cinematic single-player campaign titled Squadron 42, starring many famous actors, is also coming, and CIG recently announced that it’s feature-complete.
Full disclosure: the author of this post backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
