In early 2025, the next installment of the critically acclaimed underwater survival game Subnautica will be released. Publisher Krafton revealed this exciting news in its latest financial report, confirming that Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the game’s developer, is hard at work crafting another captivating aquatic adventure.
There wasn’t much else revealed about the “next Subnautica” in the financial report besides the release year of 2025. Since its debut in 2018, Subnautica has captivated players with its unique blend of exploration, survival, and horror. So we can assume the original Subnautica’s signature brand of horror is expected to remain a central element of the new game.
The eerie depths of the ocean, coupled with the constant threat of unseen predators, have been a major factor in the series’ success. There is no doubt that the anticipation for the next Subnautica is palpable, and with Unknown Worlds at the helm, the game is sure to deliver another great underwater experience.
Some other games revealed in the financial report were:
- Project Black Budget: A PvEvP extraction shooter scheduled for release in the second half of 2024.
- Project Gold Rush: An action-adventure sandbox targeting 2025.
Krafton is the publisher behind the popular battle royale game PUBG. It’s expanding its portfolio with a diverse lineup of upcoming titles like Project Black Budget and Project Gold Rush mentioned above. These games may add to the excitement surrounding the Krafton. Another Subnautica would be one thing, but from what I’ve seen, they’ve got a lot more in store.
Krafton is also in charge of InZOI, a Sims-like game that is expected – by me – to take down The Sims series. It looks like Krafton is not backing down at all, and will be taking on the games industry in a huge way. The years to come will definitely see Krafton as more than just “the PUBG developer” that so many know the studio as.
