We’ve been hearing for nearly a couple of years now that a remastered version of The Last of Us Part 2 is in development for PS5, and yet more evidence has emerged that the acclaimed Naughty Dog title could indeed be getting a native release on Sony’s current-gen console in the not-too-distant future.
X user PlayStation Game Size – a page that tracks the PlayStation Store – has reported finding a native PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 on the PlayStation Store backend, suggesting that an announcement of a remastered release could be around the corner.
This is far from the only evidence we’ve had of a PS5 release of the action-adventure title. Earlier this year, The Last of Us composer Gustavo Santaolalla let slip that a new and expanded version of the game was in development, while a remaster of the title was also spotted on the profile of a Naughty Dog artist not long afterward.
With The Game Awards coming up soon, one has to wonder whether Sony is finally ready to announce the long-awaited remaster of The Last of Us Part 2. Whether its PS5 release will also be accompanied by a PC port remains to be seen, but given the fact that HBO’s The Last of Us is getting its second season in 2025, we wouldn’t be surprised to see that happening, similar to how the company handled the first game’s remake.
The Last of Us Part 2 is available on PS4, and has sold 10 million copies as of June last year. Read our review of the game through here.
