Cities: Skylines 2 developer Colossal Order has shared more information on the game’s upcoming Editor feature, as well as confirming the end of weekly patches for the game.
In last week’s Word of the Week update, Colossal Order promised to talk more about modding in the next devlog, and that’s exactly what this one is primarily about.
The latest Word of the Week gives a glimpse into the Editor feature for Cities: Skylines 2, which currently “includes only maps and support for code modding” and which the team is looking forward to prepping for an initial release.
Colossal Order says it’s aiming to release the Editor “as soon as possible”, but it’s likely to take “a couple of months” to get everything to a state where it’s ready to be released.
As such, no “concrete timeline” can be provided, as the developer says it doesn’t want to make promises it can’t keep.
The console versions of Cities: Skylines 2, which were delayed to next year back in September, will feature parity with the PC Editor in all but two things: asset importing and code modding.
These features can’t be added to the console versions, but you will still be able to download user-created assets and make custom maps.
Finally, Colossal Order provides an update on Cities: Skylines 2 patches, which have been coming every week since the game launched.
One more of those patches is due soon, but following that, Colossal Order says it will move to a longer schedule for patches.
The studio says the workload for patches is “significant” and that the performance improvements it has in mind will require more work than releasing a patch a week can accommodate.
As such, “less frequent updates” will be forthcoming, but the developer does promise to keep players updated via regular Word of the Week logs, which will continue to appear each week “until further notice”.
Cities: Skylines 2 is available right now on PC. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game are due to arrive sometime next year.
