A Few Rounds Games released an extensive video introducing some key aspects of their upcoming indie dark fantasy 2.5D fighting game Umbral Core.
We hear briefly how the project started, and then we delve into the story that follows the footsteps of former hero Byron, who embarks on a quest to rescue her friend from the dark powers.
Moving on to gameplay, the developers mention that Umbral Core combines the originality of Street Fighter with the fast pace of Guilty Gear, blending them together with a rich combat system.
Interestingly, the battle system is designed to be approachable to newcomers thanks to ease of control via auto-combos and the fact that it includes single-player content.
Harcore fighting game players can expect deep mechanics, resource management, and advanced combos, providing them with the chance to express themselves.
Display framerate is uncapped, while frame data and the combat system will still be running at 60 FPS. Rollback netcode will be included as well since it has pretty much become a must-have feature in fighting games, and the developers had to make it work with Unity.
There is also ultrawide screen support, on top of training tools like in-game frame data display, visible hitboxes, and more. It appears that the folks at A Few Rounds Games are pulling all the stops to make Umbral Core a full-fledged fighting game despite the indie nature of the project.

Umbral Core is doesn’t have a release date at the moment, but we know that it’s coming for PlayStation 5 and PC.
