We all remember when Hades took the world by storm. Well, a new contender is entering the ring. Skybreakers, the anime equivalent to Hades, will be released on November 15!
The game has a similar art style and the gameplay mechanics are definitely inspired by its predecessor – the character designs and artistic direction actually remind me a little of Phantom Blade Executioners too. It’s perfect for those who have been looking for something just like Hades, whilst we wait for the release of the second installment.
Don’t forget to add Skybreakers to your wishlist via the game’s official Steam page!
Hades… But Different
Skybreakers plays more like an RPG when compared to Hades. You’ve got a great selection of classes to try, allowing you to find the best one for your preferred playstyle. Plus, it keeps the game fresh when you want a break from your main class!
Your overall class determines which weapons you can wield, so it’s best to experiment with each one when you’re new to the game – some will undoubtedly be better than others. In fact, each class is inspired by Chinese culture, which is a really neat touch.
A Constant Sense of Progression
Building your character is a key part of the game, with special artifacts and abilities to add to your arsenal as you progress through each level. If you’ve played Hades before, you’ll know how this process works. You need to clear the current floor of enemies before you get to select from a range of upgrades.
On the topic of characters, each of them falls under a class. So your appearance will be based on the class that you choose! I think my favourite is the Mohist, purely because she looks cute and wields a massive hammer with flails attached to it – who wouldn’t want her on their team?
To conclude, I think Skybreakers is a pretty decent homage to one of the kings of roguelikes. Hades is a tough one to beat, and while Skybreakers has its similarities, the game manages to set itself apart from all those that came before it.
