Sony has announced that integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles as of November 13, 2023. This means that gamers will no longer be able to view content published on X on their PS5/PS4 consoles, or post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from their PS5/PS4 consoles.
As found and displayed in a tweet by Wario64, PS4 and PS5 consoles won’t allow posting directly to X soon. X nor PlayStation has provided a specific reason for the change, but it is likely due to a combination of factors, such as X’s change in ownership and direction, the declining popularity of X among gamers, and the rise of other social media platforms that are more popular with gamers, such as Discord and Reddit.
Gamers who use X to share their gameplay experiences will need to find another way to do so after November 13, 2023. Some popular alternatives to X on PlayStation include Discord and Reddit. Gamers can also download pictures and videos from the PlayStation App and share them to other social media platforms or other websites from their phones.
Sony has stated that they are committed to providing their users with the best possible social experience and that they will continue to explore ways to integrate with other social media platforms in the future.
It’s strange to see things like this to be honest. I would think that social media networks want their users to use their services more. A good way to get more users and show that it’s popular is to integrate with gaming systems. At this point, X really wants to be more of an exclusive brand, which matches the complete black look of luxury and the X title. I never liked to use X on PlayStation and it was a big hassle, to be honest, so I’m fine with it leaving.
