During the celebration of BlizzCon 2023, Blizzard shared news about Overwatch 2, directly from game director Aaron Keller and Art Director Dion Rogers.

We get the reveal of the game’s newest hero, Maoga, who hails from Samoa. He will arrive in Season 8.

He’s armed with two Gatling guns, Gunny and Cha-cha, and he certainly looks like he’s worthy of his name, which means Mauga in Samoan.

Mauga’s tattoo has been created by a Samoan tattoo artist and he’s defined as “easy to learn and hard to master.”

You can watch him in action in his new trailer below. Despite his massive appearance, he seems to have a rather tactical ability kit.

Overwatch fans will be familiar with Mauga as he previously appeared as a non-playable member of Talon and he’s known to be Baptiste’s friend.

Interestingly, he’ll be playable as a preview in-game for the whole weekend right after the opening ceremony of BlizzCon concludes.

We also get some info about what’s coming next year including the new PvP mode called “Clash.” The initial map for the mode coming in 2024 is set in Japan and it’s a rebirth of a classic Overwatch map named Hanaoka.

In 2024, we’re also getting a rework of the competitive system with new rewards on top of experiences based on Egyptian mythology, witches, and even a mirror universe in which heroes and villains will swap roles.

Three more heroes will come next year and today we get a glimpse at two of them. A damage hero named Venture will come in Season 10, while a support hero code named Space Ranger will come in Season 12.

You can check them out below.
