Star Wars Outlaws remains one of the most highly-anticipated installments in the sci-fi franchise’s growing video game catalog after its initial announcement in January 2021. However, those looking forward to experiencing the open-world intergalactic adventure may have to remain patient a little longer, as Ubisoft has seemingly delayed its launch following a statement in the company’s recent earnings call that mentioned a delay to a “large game.”
Though Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot didn’t mention Star Wars Outlaws by name in the document the company provided, many speculate that the outer space RPG featuring protagonist Kay Vess is the game being referred to due to its significant scale and prominent status within the gaming community. Towards the latter portion of Ubisoft’s Earnings Figures Report, the organization’s higher-ups mentioned that this “large game” was initially supposed to be released “during the last quarter of the current fiscal year.”
They would then mention that their decision to launch this “large game” in FY2024-2025 was made “to maximize its value creation,” likely in an effort to avoid most of the high-profile games that have been released recently, which include heavy hitters like Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2. Unfortunately, a specific release date is still yet to be provided by the game’s developers, though we expect it to be provided the closer we get to the stated launch window.
In addition to the reported Star Wars Outlaws delay, Ubisoft also announced another launch postponement for their upcoming sea-faring RPG in Skull and Bones in the same earnings call. Unlike many of this game’s previous delays, a reason for this latest pushback was not provided, so most fans were left confused at the sudden announcement.
