11 bit studios has officially announced its partnership with developer Odd Meter to publish INDIKA, an intriguing third-person narrative-driven title. It will be available around 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The official announcement came alongside the release of a brand-new trailer, with statements from the developers. The video trailer sheds light on the challenges stemming from Russia’s controversial invasion of Ukraine and how it affected the collaboration between Odd Meter and 11 bit studios. The trailer also revealed that part of INDIKA‘s revenue will be donated to help children affected by the war in Ukraine.

INDIKA is set in alternative Russia of the late 19th century where religious visions clash with harsh reality. It tells the story of a young nun, Indika, who sets off on a journey of self-discovery with an unlikely companion by her side, the devil himself.

Indika appears to be a typical nun attempting to adjust to a difficult and monotonous monastery life. Despite her humble and innocent appearance, this young girl hides a secret—her unusual connection with the devil, leading her to journey beyond the safe walls of the monastery. To her surprise, the world she discovers can only be described as a wild combination of comedy and tragedy reminiscent of the works of Dostoyevski and Bulhakov.

Beyond its intention to explore profound themes of war and religion, INDIKA sets itself apart with its visually striking and realistic graphics. The unique incorporation of the fish-eye lens effect seems to allow players to intimately delve into Inka’s emotions, perhaps unveiling the secrets she guards.

Although the trailer didn’t provide a closer look at the gameplay, it was disclosed that INDIKA will feature a blend of exploration and environmental puzzles with a touch of platforming. 11 bit studios will likely reveal more details in the coming months ahead of its launch.

INDIKA is now available for wishlist on Steam.
