The effects of the slow MW3 TTK have been well-documented since the beginning of the latest series installment’s beta period, and players are now concerned that a quickscoping meta will define the game’s initial launch to counteract the longer time it currently takes to down enemies.
Following the conclusion of the second beta weekend ahead of the Modern Warfare 3 release date, hardcore CoD fans have finally gauged how the upcoming series entry feels. While most within the community are cautiously optimistic, some are worried that the launch day trend will be dominated by gamers prevalently making use of optimal sniper rifle builds, like the best Longbow loadout in MW3, to terrorize in-game lobbies by quickscoping everyone to death.
A Redditor named Quiet_Battle1028 said they “don’t see how this doesn’t turn into a quickscope meta at this point unless there are further planned changes to gunplay.” “I’ve played [the] beta each day [for] at least 8 hours, and the only thing that’s been most consistent is quickscoping,” they continued. “Lobbies with a good quickscoper are really tough to play in. It doesn’t matter what the range is; it’s extremely effective in short, mid, and long-range, beating out the best [weapons] very consistently.”
“The one thing about the OG MW2 that made quickscoping so good but fun [was that] nearly every weapon was strong as hell, but [it] wasn’t any more broken than 90% of the other weapons,” added commenter xCeePee. “This game reminds me of Cold War with the snipers being the strongest weapons due to TTK with regular guns.”
Fortunately, Sledgehammer Games has been very receptive to these types of community complaints and requests, so it may only be a matter of time until this is addressed in a future patch. For now, though, you’ll just have to bear with the insufferable quickscoping meta until it gets balanced in an update.
