Original: The new Mario voice actor in Super Mario Bros. Wonder may have been discovered stemming from a new datamine. Nintendo said players would be able to find out who’s taken on the role from Charles Martinet when the game launches, but we seemingly won’t need to wait another week.
The game itself isn’t out yet, so you might be curious as to how a datamine could already exist. As it turns out, someone has managed to get their hands on the demo that recently popped up in stores across the country.
After going through the contents of the demo, it seems like Mick Wingert is the new Mario voice actor in Super Mario Bros. Wonder – and Luigi as well. Wingert previously voiced characters in Fire Emblem Heroes, worked on Genshin Impact (Il Dottore), and more. He’s had roles in film and television as well, including Iron Man / Tony Stark in various shows and Po in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.
Since Kenny James and Caety Sagoian were found found in the datamine, both are thought to be returning as Bowser and Bowser Jr. respectively. However, Yoshi and Daisy have seemingly been recast. One other tidbit is that there’s no sign of Laura Faye Smith, so there’s a good chance that Rosalina won’t be in the game.
You can find a list of voice actors datamined from the Super Mario Bros. Wonder demo and who they seem to be playing below, courtesy of MondoMega. The corresponding roles aren’t 100% confirmed, but are very likely based on what we know.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches on October 20, 2023.
Update: Wingert’s agent, Epoch Talent, says he can neither confirm nor deny his involvement in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but “he can confirm that he is NOT voicing Mario.”
Kevin Afghan has also been thrown around as the possible voice of Mario, but that currently seems unlikely as fans believe he’s voicing the talking flower.
Perhaps Wingert is simply being coy about his specific role as to not break an NDA. Either way, we’ll know officially in about a week from now.
