Switch update 17.0.0

The latest firmware update for Switch just released, and version 17.0.0 should begin to roll out for all system owners.

Similar to upgrades as of late, there’s again nothing here in terms of functionality. Nintendo has done some small tinkering behind the scenes and promises another wave of stability improvements.

Here’s the official patch notes (or single patch note) from Nintendo:

Switch update version 17.0.0 patch notes

  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

Brand new number changes often suggest some sort of addition or new features, but that’s not the case here. This isn’t the first time something similar has happened, however. Even with version 16.0.0, that simply made it so nicknames that cannot be used are replaced with “???” which can be updated from the profile settings. You have to go all the way back to March 2022 as the last time we saw a major addition on Switch – that’s when the “Groups” functionality was made available on the home menu.

Most Switch owners should find that the new update will be downloaded automatically soon, and they’ll receive a prompt to install it. However, it can be accessed right away by going to the system settings, selecting the “System” tab, and choosing the “System Update” option.
