Half an hour later, the next key scene caused a lot of discussion. GC received a free kick and Morandi passed the ball. Tsiy-William Ndenge headed the ball into the net and the record champions celebrated the equalizer to make it 1-1. But the assistant referee immediately raised the flag and ruled it offside.

Now the drama begins: VAR is turned on and the scene is checked again. The reason was that GC player Kristers Tobers may have touched the ball before Ndenge's header. According to referee Fedai San, his assistant saw Tobers' touch, which had a decisive impact on the ball's trajectory.

There was no obvious contact in the video image, so more than four minutes passed before Sang walked over to the screen to watch the scene for himself. A minute later, the referee decided that the goal did not count.

A total of five and a half minutes elapsed from the expected hit to the final decision. After the game, Sang explained his decision in an interview with SRF: “As long as we can't prove the contrary and we can't do it based on the pictures, we have to stick to the decision I made on the pitch”. The decision was: Offside.

Christus Tobers told Blick after the game that he felt like he didn't touch the ball. “I even tried to pull my head back. The referee told me after the game that it was difficult to find the touch. But he saw on the video that the ball had changed somehow,” said the Latvian. (Ritz)
