In Germany and Europe, Donald Trump's preparations for a second term as US president are being mocked. The composition of his cabinet particularly shocked the media.
Meanwhile, Trump is currently experiencing something of a climax in the United States. Special Prosecutor Jack Smith recently closed two cases against him. Additionally, a new survey now confirms that a majority of Americans are satisfied with his job.
Donald Trump: Americans happy with preparations
According to the latest CBS poll, 59% of Americans have a positive opinion of the way Trump is currently preparing his administration. Additionally, 55% were happy or at least satisfied with Trump's election victory.
Americans are also largely satisfied with his cabinet nominees. The most popular was probably future Surgeon General Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Almost half the population and 80% of Trump voters think he is a good choice.
Americans want ministers to have strong opinions
Trump’s defense secretary proposal, however, fared poorly. Fox News host Pete Hegseth's approval rating is only 33%. At least 64% of Trump voters are satisfied with him.
Overall, Americans expect Trump-appointed secretaries to speak their minds and have deep experience in the areas or agencies they will lead. Beyond these qualities, Republicans specifically want someone loyal to Trump. For 81% of people, this is an important criterion when making a choice.
The vast majority of Trump voters also believe that Elon Musk should have at least some influence in the Trump administration. Democrats were more critical.
People trust Donald Trump's efforts to fight inflation
After inflation and the economy dominated the U.S. election, people believed the Trump administration would lower food prices. 44% expect prices to fall, while 21% think prices will at least remain the same.
Many Democratic voters remain concerned about Trump's tenure. They are now more fearful of the impact of a Trump presidency than they were in 2016. The vast majority of them believe that as president, he will threaten their rights and freedoms.
At the same time, there appears to be a sense of exhaustion, with less than half of Democrats currently motivated to oppose Trump.
United States: Deportations remain a significant issue
As has been the case throughout the campaign, a majority of Americans continue to support mass deportation plans. According to a CBS poll, 57% of the population would support this package.
The hope is that these deportations will be carried out by law enforcement or current immigration authorities. Only 40% of Americans want the U.S. military to be responsible for deportations.
