«Good, right there! Nardo! 4:4! Four on four! “That's how Wolffors reacted on the microphone when Naldo headed in the equalizer in the 94th minute against Borussia Dortmund. Pure ecstasy for Schalke, frustration for the Dortmund players and fans After taking a 4-0 lead, Dortmund gave up the win and left the pitch feeling like a loser.
After the final whistle, people quickly started talking about this “Derby of the Century”. But after an hour of play, Schalke had made no progress, really no progress.
Different forms before the game
Before the game, S04 was in excellent condition. They have not lost a single game in the last six games, and only Bayern Munich is ahead of “Napen” in the standings.
The new coach Domenico Tedesco hired in the summer mainly ensures that Schalke's defense is clean and relies on counterattacks. This can also be seen from the goal statistics before the 13th round – —Schalke only scored 16 goals. In twelve games, but that's goals, the ball only went into his own goal ten times.

Things look different in Dortmund. Dortmund have taken just one point from their last five games and have dropped to fifth in the table after a sensational start to the season. Newly appointed coach Peter Bosz has come under fire and hopes to make a breakthrough against tough opponents.
Dortmund crushed Schalke from the start
The intensity of the game was very high in the first few minutes. Just three minutes later, Schalke's Weston McKennie received his first yellow card.
In the 12th minute, Dortmund scored the first goal of the game. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came on himself, pushed the ball into the goal and followed up with a shot. In the 18th minute, Benjamin Stamboley pushed the ball into his own goal, completely unguarded. Schalke seemed completely uncomfortable.
Just two minutes later, Mario Gotze headed home Dortmund's third goal. It looked like Borussia Dortmund were emerging from crisis and just five minutes later Rafael Guerrero could once again ensure Gladbach could celebrate.

After four goals (!) in eight minutes, the 151st Revell derby seemed decided after less than half an hour. Schalke's defense was desolate and Dortmund's side felt like they didn't even need to push the boundaries because life was so easy for them.
Double substitution before half-time
Schalke had to react, so Domenico Tedesco made two substitutions before the half-time whistle. McKennie is at serious risk of yellow-red, and Franco Di Santo must be out. Armin Harit and Leon Goretzka came to them.
Schalke didn't recover until halftime and didn't concede another goal. At halftime, Tedesco decided not to berate his players. He tried to calmly motivate the team again and pointed out that anything is possible in football.
The first glimmer of hope appeared for the Royal Blues in the second half. Naldo headed in after a free kick, but the goal didn't count.
An hour later, the chase begins
After Aubameyang got a great opportunity to rewrite the score to 5-0, Schalke took the lead in the 61st minute. Guido Bugstaler headed the ball past Roman Weidenfeller and into the goal. Harriet made it 2-4 just four minutes later, and at Signal Iduna Park there were growing questions about whether it was still possible.
In the 72nd minute, things got worse for Dortmund. Aubameyang was given a yellow card for a reckless foul. What's the end for Dortmund?

Bugstaler headed the ball towards the goal, but Weidenfeller reacted well and hit the ball against the post. Time is slowly but surely running out for the team from Gelsenkirchen.
But in the 86th minute, Schalke actually scored the next goal. Daniel Caligiuri crossed the penalty area and hit the ball into the top left corner. Schalke's equalizer was absolutely deserved and Dortmund's worries only grew as seven minutes of added time rolled around.
Naldo's header is eternal
In the 4th minute of stoppage time, Schalke got another corner kick. Konopyanka took the corner kick into the middle, and Naldo got up highest and hit the ball into the net. All Schalke players ran to the away side to celebrate.

People in Dortmund looked stupid and didn't believe what had just happened. There is no doubt that this draw feels like a failure. The fans were also completely frustrated and whistled at their players after the game.
Tedesco was very excited after the game and praised his team's performance in the second half. He also revealed the goals he has set for his players during the break:
“We wanted to win the second half and that was our goal. You can imagine how we felt. We wanted to set realistic goals. Schalke has the character, Schalke has the mentality and Schalke can deliver great performances.”
Bosz was sacked two days after the game
In just two Bundesliga games, Peter Bosz's tenure at Borussia Dortmund will be over. After a draw with Bayer Leverkusen and a loss to Werder Bremen, he had to leave the club just a few months later.

Schalke, meanwhile, remained strong throughout the season and ended the season as runners-up. Borussia Dortmund are eight points shy and, under new coach Peter Stoger, are in fourth place, barely qualifying for the Champions League.
Games on Twitter as alternatives to Corona
When the 2019/2020 season was interrupted for two months due to the new crown epidemic and the scheduled Reville derby could not be held, Schalke's social media department decided to tweet the game again.
Schalke collapsed over the next few years
After a successful season, Schalke gradually went downhill in the following years and was relegated to second place in the Bundesliga in the 2020/2021 season. In 34 games, Schalke 04 only scored 16 points, almost tying the negative record of Tasmania Berlin. In the 1965/1966 season, Berlin failed to win 31 consecutive games, while Schalke won 30 games.
After spending one season in the second division, S04 managed to gain direct promotion the following year. But just a year later we were back in the Bundesliga.
