For the footballer, the Christian God suddenly became more important than his job. He followed the biblical seventh day of rest.

Religion and belief are two phenomena as unpredictable as disease. They suddenly attack some people. Awakening experiences that unexpectedly haunt the victim are often the cause. Then all hell broke loose and those who came into contact viewed it as heaven on earth.

It's not uncommon for stars to find that celebrity status is clearly not enough. The most recent example is the talented football player Sylvain Woerner. The football gods predicted a bright future for the 22-year-old genius.

But now he has discovered God and is immediately hanging up his football boots. A peculiar religious delusion in which his god seemed not to be a football fan.

surprising resignation

Silvan Wallner won the Swiss Championship with FC Zurich and played for the U-21 national team. He recently started experimenting with international football, playing successfully for Linz Blue. Which means: He played ball. But now comes the surprising resignation. He prioritized the Christian God. As if football and faith in God were insurmountable opposites.

Specifically: Football player tells his coach: Listen, being a football player is a dream job, but unfortunately it often comes on Saturdays. Saturday is holy, the Bible says so. Ever since I discovered God and the Bible, football has never been about me. God comes first, I’m sure you’ll understand, right?

Sylvain Woerner was lucky enough to understand the sporting director and coach, even if he shook his head. They terminated their contracts and allowed their regular players to escape into the arms of the gods.

What happened to Sylvain Woerner has left the football world baffled. It is suspected that he fell in love with a cult leader or self-proclaimed prophet.

The former footballer strongly denied the rumors. He said in an interview that he has become a devout Christian and reads the Bible regularly, which is very exciting and educational. But he was not a member of the church.

Skepticism is appropriate. News of Wollner's joining the Seventh-day Adventist Church quickly circulated in the media. As the name suggests, it is important to the Free Church to observe a day of rest in honor of the Lord. Similar to Orthodox Jews. The Sabbath mentioned in the Old Testament is also on Saturday for Adventists.

Wallner believed in acting in the name of God and Jesus. But on the surface, this seems very selfish. Countless people cared for him over the years.

So did Sylvain Woerner find God in a quiet little room? That's impossible. Some people suddenly have awakening experiences and become strict believers. However, these people are usually people with psychological problems. They hallucinate, daydream, or have the impression that God is calling them to follow the way of Jesus.

This hardly applies to Sylvain Woerner. He may be reluctant to name the religious groups that sought to lure him into their faith network. Or she doesn't want to be named because it would damage her image. Linz fans probably won't find it funny.

It is reasonable to assume that he joined the Adventists. No other large free church reveres Saturday so consistently.

Baptism takes time

So is the former footballer lying? This is not necessarily the case, as you generally become a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church only after you have established themselves in their radical beliefs and been baptized. That may not yet be the case for Sylvain Woerner. Therefore, he can easily claim that he is not a member without having to lie.

But in the end, it doesn’t matter how, where and with whom he prays. The only thing that is incomprehensible is that he gave up his job for his faith. This shows that he became religiously radical and subordinated everything to his beliefs. How strange Sylvain Woerner's decision was becomes obvious when you ask a few basic questions.

What do God, Jesus, and the inhabitants of heaven think of Sylvan Varner? How do you feel about this football player giving up his career for you? Are you proud? Would they send him a plane ticket so that when he died he could fly straight to heaven and have a place with God? What benefit did God and Jesus gain from their fan Sylvain Woerner giving up his football career?

Who gave this commandment?

Next article: Did God Really Make a Saturday Rule? If so, who received his message? Or was it sneaked into the Bible centuries later by a religious writer for tactical reasons?

There is a high probability that this commandment does not come from God. Even if he brings it up, it doesn't mean you can't play football on the holy day. Even if you get something out of it. Adventists interpret this as an Old Testament reference.

Silvan Wallner believes in acting in the name of God and Jesus. But on the surface, this seems very selfish. Over the years, countless people have taken care of him and made him a football star. His parents, all the coaches from the youth teams to the top clubs and club members at the club.

He had offended them, and his ingratitude could not have been greater. He didn't care about that, he only had his God and his religious achievements in his mind. If the God of his imagination did not exist—the possibility is entirely a given—he would have radically changed his life by making a fatal mistake.

Attitude is important

Sylvain Wollner must also consider that religious beliefs and attitudes are far more important than the absurd commandment not to work on one day of the week. He can pray and worship God anytime and anywhere. Why did Saturday play such a disastrous role? Couldn't Sylvan choose a day that suited him?

And: What kind of stubborn and heartless God is he who insists on observing His Sabbath only on Saturdays?

If everyone believed what Adventists believe, the world would stand still on all Saturdays. Doctors in hospitals will no longer care for patients, there will no longer be emergency services, police will no longer respond to violent crimes, and fire departments will have to watch as residents jump to their deaths from windows. Fire, etc.

Is this what Jesus meant? Hardly. But in the spirit of Sylvain Woerner and Adventists, they strictly adhered to Saturday's rules.

You shall rest on the seventh day

Also: The Bible only says to rest on the seventh day. The suggestion is only in the subjunctive mood and therefore is a suggestion. But Adventists make it a stern commandment. The believers obeyed like devout lambs. And Sylvain Wollner.

Perhaps the former football player should look into the biography of John von Lanten. The successful footballer followed a similar path. He has previously played for the national team and, at 18, was the youngest player to score a goal at the European Championships. That was in 2004, when he fell under the control of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was no longer allowed to play on Saturdays.

After about two years, he realized his religious error and wanted to restart his career. But he was no longer on the same level as before and paid a high price for this religious adventure.

It would be nice for Sylvan Wallner to have a second awakening experience soon that would reveal to him the error of his ways. He can continue to trust his God and pray to Him before Saturday's football games.
