Lots of users, lots of detailed reviews and lots of real Pictures – All of this makes Tripadvisor a popular source for restaurant searchers. Now the platform has evaluated a wealth of reviews and selected the best restaurants in the world and in Switzerland. According to Tripadvisor, less than 1% of the 8 million entries made it onto the list. Not only are the dishes there delicious, but so are the AI-generated descriptions. Here is the list.
Elmira, Zurich
“This is a place where chefs really shine,” says Tripadvisor AI.Image: Tripadvisor
The elmira restaurant at the Löwenbräu factory in Zurich focuses on simplicity and quality. This earned the restaurant two Michelin awards: one regular star and one green star, which recognizes particularly sustainable cuisine. In the basement of a former silo, the chefs present their creations themselves, directly on the table.
Alpine Cuisine Prato Borni, Zermatt
“Comfortable atmosphere and amazing restaurant.”Bild: Tripadvisor
The next restaurant on the list is a little less down to earth. Everything seems to be just right at Alpine Gourmet Prato: guests rave about the food, the perfectly paired wines and the highly qualified staff. The menu includes local and international dishes: Bern's star chef Heinz Rufibach lets guests choose between the “Home” and “Fernweh” menus. Each course consists of four to six courses, which can be mixed and matched, and prices start from 150 francs.
My name is Ackermannshof, Basel
Fine dining is also available in Basel's Ackermannshof restaurant. The restaurant is a restored centuries-old printing press and is run by chef Flavio Fermi. Although a few reviewers on Tripadvisor were dissatisfied with the value for money and the “mini portions”, most agreed that the gourmet restaurant experience was very good.
Pic Au Beau-Rivage Palace, Lausanne
Art on a plate…Image: Tripadvisor
and in the restaurant.
The eyes really eat at the Pic Au Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne. Tripadvisor AI almost doesn’t work anymore phrase Rave reviews: The restaurant “fascinates with its beautiful surroundings” and its “extraordinary” tasting menu is paired with “exquisite” wines. AI or not, the visit seems worth it if your wallet allows it. 7 courses cost 330 francs. No wine.
Apartment, Geneva
brain? seafood? plant? Bild: Tripadvisor
Here, one plate is prettier than the other. Who dares to handle such a delicate piece of gastronomic art with a fork? What sets this restaurant apart: “It's seafood focused.” At least that's what the AI says.
Hotel Restaurant Crisil Town Hall, Crisil
The lobster did not immediately fly into the air on its green wings, as the demonstration suggested.Bild: Tripadvisor
We lived in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and the emphasis was on seafood. There are also carefully arranged plates. The Hôtel de Ville's 24 chefs ensure this, more than any other Swiss restaurant. They cook on open stoves, making “élégantes Demoiselles pochées” (a poetic name for Breton lobster) or “Soupe Gourmande” (halved peas and carrots).
Steinhalle, Bern
Berner Steinhalle was renovated in 2023.Bild: Tripadvisor
The Steinhalle restaurant in Bern serves international cuisine because chef Markus Arnold is a world traveler. He regularly conducts food tours and shares his discoveries with guests in the form of food and blog posts. Casual dining (“fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere”) is available in the evening, and a light lunch is available at noon.
Puss in Boots, Geneva
Chat-botté isn't a fancy chatbot, but a Geneva restaurant with “elegant furniture, pleasantly spaced tables and an original selection of breads.” says the Tripadvisor chatbot. Human reviewers seem to love this restaurant so much that they keep coming back for contemporary French cuisine.
Meta restaurant, Lugano
The modern palace of the extremely wealthy Mantegazza family in Paradiso, Lugano, is impressive with its panoramic terrace with lake views. Here, chef Luca Bellanca creates imaginative seasonal gourmet menus, offering local specialties and international dishes.
Bayview by Michel Roth
The AI found this to be a functional place with a welcoming atmosphere.Bild: Tripadvisor
The name says it all – here you can also dine with a view of the lake. Chef Michel Roth reinterprets classic French cuisine, offering signature menus ranging from 7 to 10 courses.
