After the San Francisco 49ers' victory, NFL star Nick Bosa wore a hat emblazoned with Trump's slogan “Make America Great Again” and held it up to the camera. Sales of his jerseys have since soared, but now he faces penalties.
The U.S. presidential election is getting closer and closer, and voting in the American Football League NFL has become more and more frequent in recent times. In addition to this, voting was already available at the respective teams' stadiums during the last election. A week before Election Day, there was a lot of excitement around Nick Bosa, one of the best defenders in the league.
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was interviewed after the San Francisco 49ers' victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Bosa approached from the background and pointed to his hat that read “Make America Great Again” before running away again. This is Donald Trump’s slogan.
long time trump supporter
Nick Bosa has been a vocal supporter of Trump for years and already supported the former president when he ran against Joe Biden in the last election in 2020. Four years ago, he also caused a lot of discussion: When Colin Kaepernick knelt during the American national anthem to protest racism and police brutality, Bosa called him a “clown.”
In doing so, the then-18-year-old fell in line with Donald Trump, who has continued to take shots at the San Francisco 49ers quarterback for his protest actions during this time. Kaepernick was separated from the Niners after the 2016/17 season and subsequently was unable to find a new team. In 2019, the great defensive genius Nick Bosa was selected by San Francisco in the first round of the draft. He later deleted various critical comments on social media.

Jersey sales soar
Now, Nick Bosa has once again made his political stance clear, leading to a surge in his jersey sales. According to reports, the defensive end's jersey is currently the league's best-selling jersey, nearly sold out in multiple cities across the country.
In a post about the jersey sales, Bosa was praised by many Trump fans for the campaign. Many netizens praised him and expressed their desire to buy a San Francisco No. 97 jersey.

Bosa is not alone
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is also a strong supporter of Donald Trump in this campaign. Butker founded an organization to persuade Christians to vote for Republican candidates.
The kicker already made negative headlines in May when he made homophobic and sexist remarks during a speech at a US university. For example, Butker described events organized by LGBTQ organizations as capital crimes and said people should not attend them.
His portrayal of women also caused a lot of outrage. He firmly believed that women should continue to take care of children and run the house:
“Women are told the most vicious lies. Some of you may have successful careers in the world, but I dare say most of you are most looking forward to your marriages and the children you will bring into the world.”
Butker is vocally anti-abortion and has repeatedly criticized the policies of current President Joe Biden. The devout Catholic accused Biden of supporting the murder of innocent babies.

A petition has been launched calling for Harrison Butker to be fired from the Kansas City Chiefs following his critical remarks. His teammate Patrick Mahomes also commented on this, explaining that he represents different values than Butker. However, he also described the kicker as a “great guy.” Butker remains with the championship-winning side of the past two years, who have won all their games so far this season.
As with the Bosa case, the Chiefs kicker's jersey sales have exploded, with his jersey recently ranking as the 11th best-selling jersey in the entire league — an unusually high number for a player at his position.
Bosa faces penalty
However, Nick Bosa now faces the threat of penalties from the league. Since the Colin Kaepernick incident, the NFL no longer allows political speech during games. According to NFL rules, players and teams are prohibited from conveying political messages through any items or apparel.
Whether and how Nick Bosa is fined will be revealed Saturday. The NFL then announces which players will receive which penalties.
