Apple's smallest desktop computer is now even smaller. With the new M4 chip, the Mac Mini shrinks to the size of an Apple TV and is even more powerful.

Powered by the M4 chip, the Mac Mini is more compact than its predecessor. The new model is still square, with a width and depth of 12.7 cm. Previously, the Mac Mini was significantly larger at 19.7 centimeters. The new Mini is easily reminiscent of the Apple TV box – only the casing is made of aluminum instead of plastic.
According to Apple, the new form factor is largely made possible by the higher efficiency of the internal M4 chip, which replaced the M2-generation chip in the Mac Mini. The Mac Mini also features a new thermal design. However, compact computers still require fans.
Is sind a mini computer?
This desktop computer is so small that it can fit on (or under) almost any desk. However, there is no exact definition of the size of a mini computer. It is recommended to use at least 8 GB of main memory (RAM) so that the small computer can handle multiple applications running simultaneously. Many of the larger providers have mini PCs of varying capabilities and sizes.
What are the connections?
Another new feature: the two USB-C ports have been moved to the front of the device for better access. The Mac Mini also gets faster Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, with transfer speeds of up to 120 GB per second.
Apple calls the new Mac Mini the first carbon-neutral Mac computer. Carbon dioxide emissions during equipment production and transportation have been reduced by 80%.

How much does the mini version cost?
The starting price of the new Mac Mini model is still 599 francs, and in the education sector it starts at 499 francs. Models with the better M4 Pro chip start at 1,399 francs, or 1,299 francs for students and others with education discounts.
The new Mac Mini is available to order online and in the Apple Store app in 28 countries and regions, including Switzerland, starting Tuesday (October 29). Shipping is expected to begin on Friday, November 8th.
