After a home win over Lucerne and a strong performance against Inter Milan, who just missed out by a point, YB seemed to be back to reality. Was YB an outsider in every game before Advent?

They are only 10th in the Chinese Super League and Champions League, and after the third match day, they are still waiting for their first points. YB fans who have been spoiled by recent success are currently going through a difficult time.

Joel Magnin has returned to the Bern side after new summer coach Patrick Frame was sacked after the ninth matchday.

The uptrend has faded again

Magnin took over as YB coach in early March following the firing of Raphael Wicki and is currently serving only as interim coach again. It is unclear when the new coach will arrive in the capital.

These candidates are traded as new YB trainers:

The Red Lanterns were handed over with a home win over then Super League leaders Lucerne. In the Champions League a few days later, the Swiss defending champions also performed well against Inter Milan and are expected to earn a point against the team that will be the finalists of the 2022/23 Champions League until shortly before the end of the game. . Marcus Thuram scored for Italy in stoppage time as YB remain scoreless in the Premier League after three games.

Next came the defeat against Lugano. Judging from the current situation, it is not surprising that Ticino defeated Young Boys. But the fact that Luganesi's victory was never really in danger after the late second goal will put some worry on the foreheads of Bern fans. The coaching effect seems to have worn off.

Benito: “Don't know how to answer”

When YB players faced the media after the game, Benito's interview in particular became a talking point. In an interview with Blue Sports, the Young Boys captain looked annoyed and when asked why the players' attitude could not improve in the second half, he replied:

“I don't know how to answer that question.”

When asked the second question why he could not put pressure on his opponent, the defender replied angrily: “To be honest, I don't know what to do with these problems.” Shortly after the game, Benito also accepted the decision. Rick's interview. The 32-year-old surprised everyone by making the following remarks:

“As soon as we arrived, I felt like we weren't up to speed, like there was something missing. That's what happened.”

Benito was more explicit at SRF, harshly criticizing certain teammates: “We have players who are disappointed when they don't play. Then they get opportunities and don't show anything.” The ups and downs showed that YB actually knew how to do it, “but we didn't show it”.

There is not much time left to regain speed. A match against a resurgent Basel side that defeated Winterthur at the weekend is scheduled for Wednesday. Benito did not reveal plans on how to make the game against FCB better: “We will see before the game against Basel.”

'We are in a difficult phase'

Head coach Joel Magnin is confident the defeat won't halt the upward trend:

«We know that we are currently in a difficult phase. The two games against Lucerne and Inter Milan gave us a lot of positive experiences and it was good for us. Of course, today was a bit of a step back, but we can't forget that we still have a game on Wednesday. »

Magnin hopes his team can improve, especially in terms of offense and determination.

For YB forward Cedric Itten, the opponents were smarter: “We scored two goals very quickly, and Lugano kept fouling and buying time. They did a smart job.”
Lugano can also rely on a good goalkeeper. Amir Seppi stopped a number of Bern's chances and Iten also praised the Ticino goalkeeper:

“He performed well and showed off some great moves.”

Seven times as an outsider now?

Planning for the coming weeks won't get any easier for residents of the capital. One might ask, will YB be the most popular player before Advent? In the league, in addition to the game against Basel, there are two away games against Zurich and Lucerne, and yesterday's opponents Lugano and St. Gallen at home. All five teams are currently in the top half of the standings. YB have already played against these opponents this season and can only win against Lucerne.

The next two top European football matches are also mini-finals for Bern. First, they will meet representatives of Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk in Gelsenkirchen next Wednesday, and three weeks later they are expected to meet Atalanta Bergamo in Wankdorf. If both games go scoreless, the European dream is pretty much over. In the Swiss Cup round of 16 match against Schaffhausen on December 4 at the latest, YB will definitely become the favorite again.
