Many comments about the two slaps to Gottschalk's sons described in the 2015 book “Autumn Blonde” said it was impossible and disgusting. Others, however, defended Gottschalk based on common educational methods of the time, or argued that “a blob never hurt anyone.” Germany prohibits parents from spanking their children: Since 2001, the Civil Code has stipulated the right of children to receive non-violent upbringing, which includes not only corporal punishment, but also psychological harm and other degrading measures.

Nonetheless, even Bavarian Economics Minister Hubert Ewanger (free elector) sided with Gottschalk: “Dear Mr. Kachmann, please light up your wood stove and cook yourself a bowl of delicious food of potato soup, don’t be so mean to Mr. Gottschalk. I bet you’ll feel better?” he wrote on X.

The discussion was sparked by a passage in the 2015 book Herbstblond, which is sometimes mistakenly attributed online to Gottschalk's current book Unfiltered. In Autumn Blonde, Gottschalk describes how he once “uncontrollably slapped his son Roman for dropping three scoops of vanilla ice cream at the ice cream counter.” He slapped his son Tristan for committing “blasphemy” by recording a Beatles song on a record player in a boutique.
Gottschalk did not have a guilty conscience: “I had to listen to my wife's serious accusations, because of course the guy betrayed me to her, and my fingerprints left very good marks on his cheeks. “I don't Remember having such delicate skin as a child,” the text reads. Gottschalk could not initially be reached for comment on his current version of events. This Wednesday evening he wanted to present his new book in Hamburg; it was supposed to be The first appearance from his reading tour, Unfiltered is Gottschalk's third album, following Herbstblond and Herbstbunt (2019).
Controversial remarks frequently appear
Gottschalk has caused a stir recently with some controversial comments. Gottschalk emphasized that he no longer considered whether what he said was politically correct, but instead focused on his new book “Unfiltered,” which he wanted to present at the start of a book tour in Hamburg on Wednesday evening. He declared that he was willing to live with the consequences of this attitude. “At my age you don't have to be 'cool' anymore, I've been that way my whole life.”
More recently, the entertainer, who has also appeared in male jokes before, has caused offense with comments about physical contact with female guests, such as with the Spice Girls in the late '90s. “I approach women on TV purely for work purposes. It's like an actor kissing in a movie because it's in the script. “I won't let this be accused of assault,” he told Der Spiegel. However, He won't care about it today.
In the same interview, he also said that he himself had never thought about taking work-life balance seriously after school, given Gen Z's work ethic. “At that age, you don't have to have seen the world. When I was 17, my mother asked me to travel to England, but I missed out on expanding my worldview by visiting Latin America. I don't regret it. I don't regret the time I got. “They didn't hurt me,” Gottschalk told DER SPIEGEL (DAB/SDA/PA).
