Shaqiri's performance at Winterthur – GC flop

1 goal, 3 assists and an almost immediate conversion of a corner: Xherdan Shaqiri had it all in FC Basel's 6-0 win over Winterthur. The simultaneous defeat of Lausanne GC gave hope to the bottom team.

That's why they brought him in. That's why they paid him about 5 million francs for three years. Fans don't just love Xherdan Shaqiri for his achievements in Basel.

Against Winterthur, he was in control; it felt like every pass the 125th national team player made found his teammates. What matters is that the ball went in and we got three points.” Even without the second goal, his performance and four scorers should be enough to silence the critics for now. In the 71st minute, head coach Fabio Celestini replaced the big-name player, and Xherdan Shaqiri also received the applause he deserved from the home fans. Shortly after, Tomas Soticek continued FCB's feast, and even though Shaqiri was not on the court, his goal still made it 6-0. As a result, Winterthur's Randy Schneider only managed a consolation goal – much to the chagrin of the visiting team's Marvin Sheets.

But this should disappear quickly when you look at the table. With three consecutive wins, FCB is temporarily ranked third, while Winterthur remains at the bottom.

Lausanne – GC 3:0

The grasshoppers were still trapped. They suffered three consecutive losses at the Lausanne Sporting 0-3.

The Grasshoppers seemed to be on track after a 1-0 victory over the Young Boys on September 28, but never scored again. Lucerne – Yverdon 2:3

Yverdon is celebrating his Super League debut. Canton Vaud won 3-2 for the first time in Lucerne. It's a crazy final stretch. In the 91st minute, Lucerne made the score 2-2 thanks to Christian Max's own goal. Trailing 2-0, the Swiss Central team looked set to score for the third time this season.
